HELP! my sony viao made a little "click" sound and just died on me. What can this be? It's been having battery issues for a while now, and I have been charging it constantly. There is not light showing at all! not even the battery symbol. The adapter is showing a green light. can someone tell me if this is fixable and how much?

Thanks
Sam

Laptop motherboard power pin, broken solder connections. Quite common on all laptops. Can be bought from ebay for cheap, if you are mechanically inclined and can solder you should be able to repair it yourself, if not need to find someone who is good at electonics and have them repair it for you.

If you do this (you remove your Laptop main battery and adaptor for aprox 10 min then fix again battery and adaptor then on power button m/c is on.)
if thers no function maybe theres a problem in the inside Motherboard of your laptop, try to open inside and trace the supply circuit division chek the fuse.

Check that the power supply is the correct one for the laptop. It sounds as if the supply doesn't have enough power to supply the laptop (Watts)

Hello,
It may be the battery draining all the current and not allowing the motherboard to receive enough power to boot.
Can you please remove completely the battery and try to boot again?
Please let me know more details and I will guide you to the next step.

Try removing the battery and unplugging from the mains. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds then reinsert the ac adaptor and try to power on.

If that doesn't work I think you may have a problem with the motherboard. Overheating commonly causes these issues, also if you plugged in the external monitor with the laptop "live" this might have caused some damege

You might try to remove and reseat the battery. Jiggle the plug for your charger just to make sure that it can deliver charge to your computer.

You may be needing a new battery for your laptop, especially if the laptop seemed to require more frequent charging.

Look for guidance on your manufacturer's web site about care and charging of your laptop's battery.

Nothing happens when I press the power button (good PSU)

You've tested the PSU for volts, although you didn't mention the +12v, the critical thing with all PSU's though is Amps, if there is insufficient amps the CPU will not initiate properly, modern CPU's mobo north and south bridge chips Graphics chips etc are power hungry, volts are one thing amps are everything. Try and borrow a friends PSU to test, then buy a good one if it works with at least 14 amps on the +12v rail, the higher the better.
