Question about Projection Televisions

Looking for part/number and location Pioneer SD-P4681

Hi..I have a Pioneer SD-P4681 with the famous convergence problem..The blue goes to the right and stays there.Normally after the TV is shut off for some time you can readjust it and your good for a while. But the other night,it finally bit the biscuit and the blue is permantly out to the right.

I've read in several posts here and elsewhere, where the convenrgence chip has gone bad,so I am goign to assume that this is my problem.

Can someone give me an idea of which component it is exactly on in my TV.The video baord is a AWV-1478-A part number on it if that helps

I have someone lined up to do the work, and am ready to get the parts, but I can't locate it and I need to find the part number first before I order to ensure the proper peices.

If someone can help, would appreciate it...

Thanks

Aaron

I found this on one site:

Remove the speaker grill then the panel behind that you will find a board mounted to that panel find the big ass Ic ( STK4277 ) and change it,
problem solved almost every time

Hope that helps...

Hello, I have an older Pioneer SD-P55A3 projection tv. I have a problem where the picture at the bottom of the screen appears distorted or, more accurately, "warped". There is yellow and blue that does not...

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2

Another common problem is dull or washed out video.
Your TV may have one or more of the following symptoms....
  • Dull looking picture
  • White looking picture
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking picture

Right side convergence

A convergence IC has burned out. If I remember correctly, those Pioneer sets have one huge convergence IC, but that IC only has 5 channels in it so they use another smaller dual STK IC and one half of it is used for the 6th channel and the other half is the vertical output. Look on the convergence board, find the blue convergence jack, identify the blue horizontal channel, follow the traces and replace the IC handling the blue horizontal channel.

Blue convergence on Pioneer SD-532HD5

The converence IC's are the problem. Unfortunaely, I do not a service manual for that unit. You will find the IC's mounted on a large heat sink. The nuers usually start with STK-xxxx. Find these IC's and copy the number off them. Usually the can be replaced by generics. You can order them directly from Mat Electronics 1-800-628-1118. Be extremely careful when you desolder these ICS the foils are easy to lift. Use desoldering braid(chemtronics) 10-25L. Also ask for BOB and tell him that Tom from TOM's Tv suggested him. This will insure you the lowest price. Also some times the current limiting resistors open up. Always replace both convergence ICS. In your case only one is bad. Replace both anyway. (they only cost about $12.00 @ Any further questions, contact me. These are great TV's and well worth repairing!!! Scrivitron
