Question about Jenn-Air JCD2389G Side by Side Refrigerator

Compressor on whirlpool side by side

My compressor would click then 5-10 seconds click again but never starting. I found on side of compressor where wire plug in like plastic switches. The one on top I shook it ,sounded like dust inside, so I made me a couple jumpers and compressor started, but only ran for about few minutes, then got real hot and stopped. Is it compressor and what should I expect to pay for new one.

The overload relay on the compressor is constantly cutting in and out. The temp in the fridge seems to be OK so I think the compressor is OK. Am I looking at a defective start relay assy.? Also, when I unplug the overload relay the cooling fan continues to run and even once the compressor cools off the fan continues to run. Shouldn't the fan shut off at some point?
    Thanks,
    Paul

STOP! DO NOT RUN UNTIL YOU GET PROPER PART!
I hope you have not ruined the compressor by now. Your original problem was that your compressor start relay assembly was bad. The click noise you were hearing was the overload protector preventing damage to the compressor. When you bypassed this relay and overload protector you may have burned the windings of your compressor. You would need a compressor tester or you will need to put a good relay overload assembly on to see if the compressor is usable now. If the compressor is destroyed the repair bill could run from about $350.00 to $700.00 depending on model and technicians labor charge.
I hope I have helped, supertechks

Hi,

Unplug unit from the wall, remover the start relay from the compressor and shake it. If its solid possible bad compressor, if it sounds loose (broken part) then most likely bad relay. Verify your model number as you are missing some letters.

Good Luck

Fridge not getting cold, making clicking sound - Whirlpool EDSFTG

remove the rtc overload off the compressor and shake it,if it rattles thats your culprit, also if when its running and the compressor is quite warm to the touch, its only running on the start windings and isnt actually running right and will overheat and ruin the compressor, replace the rtc its cheaper than a new compressor

Have a whirlpool side by side refriferator estate model. Freezer won't get cold. Cleaned off underneath, fan is turning, Unplugged for awhile and plugged back in. Keep hearing clicking noise coming from...

Plastic box you're referring to contains the start components for the compressor. The clicking sound sound you hear is the protective overload shutting the compressor off because it won't start.
Two possibilities
1. The components inside the plastic box (cover) are defective and need replaced. You can remove them, by snapping off the cover and pulling them straight off. Most appliance parts houses will be happy to test them.
2. The compressor has failed internally.
Note: In my personal experience when dealing with whirlpool Estate models, 99% of the time it has been a failed compressor.

Whirlpool side-by-side refrig., compressor clicks to start, but doesn't start then clicks off and tries again shortly after.

Hopefully it's just the compressor starter relay. You can test it with an ohm meter. If it rattles when you shake it it's bad. If the relay is good than there is a problCheck your compressor relay- http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/check/compressorrelay.phpem with the compressor.

Whirlpool side-by-side won't get cold, compressor clicks on-off.

Sounds like the start relay OR the compressor is no good. Have a service tech look at it, because there may be a capacitor in the circuit, which could be dangerous for you to fool with.

Freezer has quit working and now refrigerator not cooling like it should.

If you hear the start relay clicking after the compressor tries to start then you know that there is power to the compressor.
This tells you it is ether a bad start relay or a bad compressor.
At this point I use a meter to see if the compressor is shorted to ground.
If the compressor is not shorted then replace the start relay and give it a try.
You should hear the compressor start right away with a new start relay if that was the problem.
If the compressor is shorted to ground you will need to have the compressor replaced.
Given the history on whirlpool refrigerators in the 5 year old age range It may be good chance that a new start relay will fix your refrigerator.
If the start relay is bad you will hear it try to start the compressor and then click off.
If the relay is bad you will hear the clicking sound seconds after plugging it in and then again every minute or two as it keeps trying to start the compressor.

Whirl pool side by side refrigerator problem

It looks like the Capacitor Start Relay is failing.  It is located either on the starter Relay or mounted on the side of the compressor compartment.  It sould have two wires on it, one orange and the other probably white.
