I bought a used TV from a store and told it wouldnt turn on. I get it home and it fires up and plays dvd's but when I hook the cable up to it I cant get the channels set. When I hit channel up and down I get differnt video options ( vid 1, cmpt1 ect. )...
When I called a TV repair guy he told me all I need to do is preset the channels for the tv by the sounds of it. Can anyone tell me how to do that without a remote??

Yes, you can play DVD movies on TV, you need the tuner if you want to see broadcasted channels.Your universal remote should have codes for Mitsubishi Rear Proj. Tv's. If you dont have the instructions with the remote , call the manuf. Good luck!
you'll have to rescan or run the auto-program feature in the tv main menu, and if you still have the original remote transmitter you can select video1 or vid2 depending on which input is being used for the dvd player and the dvd recorder.
Try this as all remotes work about the for manual setting. Here you go. This will work with most all universal remote controls. If you don't have the code do the following: Automatic Programming With automatic programming, the remote control tests all the codes available on the Code List and assigns the correct code for the selected device. Although this method can be more time-consuming, it eliminates the need to look up codes and enter them manually.
1. Turn off the device with which you want to use the remote control.
2. Press and hold the corresponding button on the remote control (TV, VCR, SAT, DVD, CAB or AUD) until POWER INDICATOR illuminates. It should take a couple of seconds for the light to remain solid. The remote control is in programming mode.
3. Press and release power button. The POWER INDICATOR flashes once and stays on indicating the unit is in Power Scan mode.
4. Press CHANNEL up or CHANNEL down repeatedly until the device turns on.
5. When the device turns on, press OK to store the code.
Note: • To exit without storing the code, press BACK. • T he unit will search for the next code or the previous code if you press CHANNEL up or CHANNEL down after the device turns on. (go slow you need to press OK when the TV turns on) if you mess up turn TV off and start over. 6. Press any other button. If the device responds, the remote control has been programmed. If the device does not respond, repeat steps 2-5.

Charter Digital Cable > DVD/VCR > TV
If yes and your concern is snowy or no signal on the TV screen, might it be that you have to power OFF the DVD/VCR when selecting channels on the TV itself (including when channel setup is being done).
Alternately, you can tune the TV to channel 3 and let the DVD/VCR do the channel selections.
Pls post back results. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
If you're not able to find the right channel on your TV to use your DVD player, you may want to try changing the TV's input source instead. Many TV models will require that the TV be set to an external antenna in order for any other device (like a VCR or DVD player) to function correctly. This can usually be done by pressing the menu button on the TV itself and selecting an option similar to "Input," "Source" or "Antenna" if you do not have a remote control for your TV.
1) Reset DVD player by powering unit off and unplugging from wall outlet for 30 seconds, then try again
2) Run a DVD cleaner
