Question about Acer AL1716Bbd 17" LCD Monitor

Dvd/cd drive problems

The computer somehow does not recognise the dvd/cd drive. I have been been on the net, but am reluctant to download programs which should fix it. The drive does seem to recognise CDs but not DVDs. I would be grateful for your help.

Kind regards,

Maggie Wright

Hi Keever, thanks for your tip.

I tried to to take the drive out but am not too sure how to do this. Managed to take the side panels off but could not take the top off without having to use force which I am not sure I should do. Would be grateful for some hints. I am sure once I can take the drive out and clean it, it should hopefully work again.

Also noted when I had a look that a cable with P3 written on it is connected to drive. There is also a cable with P4 on it which does not seem to have a purpose. Could this be the problem.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks for your help.

Take the drive out and carefully take off the top. The lase shines through a very small glass cover that looks like a small light bulb. Clean the very fine layer of dust off of this glass "eye" and this MIGHT fix your problem. I have seen this happen dozens, if not hundreds of times. Keever

The p4 cable might have to be hooked altough sometimes some machines have extra wires that are not supposed to be hooked up. Look for another location labeled P4. Also, punch the machine up on a search engine and you might find a service manual with wiring pictures. Keever

Also some computers have two drives------one is for cd's and the other for dvd's. If you are lucky this will be the problem.

Can't push button to open CD/DVD player - won't open. Help?

What to do if you get a CD or DVD stuck in your computers optical drive, and it won't eject. You can take several steps to troubleshoot stuck DVDs or CDs.

Computers are what they are, complex. Meaning, a stuck DVD could be one of several possible things. Sometimes it may be easy to fix. Sometimes, not so easy. The best thing to do is troubleshoot the problem.
Here is what you should not do:
- Stick a screwdriver, pocket knife, credit card, or any other object into the DVD drive and try to pry it open or pull the disc out. When stuff doesn't work right, I feel like tossing my computer across the room just as much as the next guy. But just don't do it. Troubleshoot first.

Method 1 - Try Ejecting from Within Windows Navigate on over to Start > Computer. Right-click on your CD/DVD drive choose eject from the drop down menu. Sometimes you can eject the stuck disc using Windows commands.

Method 2 - Software and Drivers The CD/DVD drive was working a week ago right? But all of a sudden it just stops. Chances are good, that you may have installed a program, application, update, driver, etc., that messed with the CD/DVD drive driver.
To troubleshoot this, try doing a system restore. A system restore will uninstall several files and changes to your computer that were made within a certain time frame. If you have just recently upgraded your operating system, this often times cause some device drivers incompatibilities.
Another thing that you can try, is uninstalling the driver for your CD/DVD drive, and reinstalling it. To do this, you will need to make sure that you have a backup of your driver. You should be able to download it from your CD/DVD drive manufacturer's website.

Cd n dvd drives not recognised in My Computer

If one drive has resently been installed on the back of the drive there is a jumper with 3 choices of c/s S and M if the jumper is set to cs changer one drive to M for master and change the other drive to S for slave and reboot. If it still wont show drives try reversing the jumpers and reboot. If still not working change your cable to the motherboard.

No disc boot

Please test your media (DVD or CD? + or -? RW or R? I prefer to use CD-R) in other computer. Probably your T600e can not read the media. Did you make bootable disc? Please recheck it.

Acer aspire wont recognise cd roms but plays dvds

Have you checked your CD roms? Maybe they are already defective. Try running them in a CD player to see if they run smoothly.
Sometimes, the onboard driver update mechanism isn't that consistent with its result. I suggest that you use RadarSync to scan your computer to see if your drivers are updated.
RadarSync is a specialized PC Driver Update Software. You can scan your computer using the free version but if you want it to update the drivers then you can buy a year or two years subscription of the software to keep your drivers updated.

Let me know if you have any questions.

CDROM CANNOT READ MY ZUMA DELUXE CD. ERROR IS UNKNOW FILE TYPE.

I would say that windows is missing the codecs to play your cd. You can get the codecs by running windows update by right clicking on computer and then properties. and then click on the windows update and click get updates now.

An easier solution would be to download vlc player. It will play any file and cd or dvd. just google for vlc media player and download it and open the cd with VLC

The CD drive in myh HP Pavilion MX70 will flash green for a few seconds, then flash amber. How do I get my cd drive to operate correctly?

make sure that the cd-drive is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the cd-drive including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd-drive then plug them back in or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver, roll back driver,or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall
hope this helps
if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

Please try to download the codecs and also try with the un-installing the DVD drive from the device manager.

Codecs weblink : http://www.free-codecs.com/K_lite_codec_pack_download.htm

Copy and paste this web link in the address bar.

Locate " Download [ K-Lite Codec Pack 5.6.1 FULL ] " from the list and click on it to start downloading the codecs. Once the download is complete, please double click on the downloaded file to install.

To uninstall and re-install the CD/DVD drive, please follow the below steps :

No sound when i put in cd or dvd was working ok untill my computer crashed

check the following

Microsoft Volume Control or your mixer program mute options and volume sliders.
Connect headphones to the stereo phone jack on your CD-ROM drive’s front panel; adjust the volume control settings on the drive. If there is sound from your headphones, check the CD audio cable connection from the CD-ROM drive to the audio card.
Ensure the speakers are properly connected to the audio card’s output connector.

hope this can help
