Question about Philips 42PF9630A 42 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

I was changing channels and the screen went black. Power is on and it makes a clicking sound but there is no audio. Any ideas? This is a fairly new TV. I'm having the same problem with my unit, I have to unplug the unit from the wall and wait 60 seconds before plugging it back in, anyone know what causes this and what can be done to prevent it?

Thanks for the assistance, but I've tried that to no avail, any other thoughts?

    Hey bobby,

    1) It stays green while it seems to try and power itself back on if its unsucessful it will shut off and blink red 4 times roughly in second intervals.

    2) Digital cable & philips home theatre system (hts3555) both using component cables.

    3) Yes there is video, it varies it seems to have a mind of it's own. I can be watching it for hours before it happens or just a few minutes, it's the weirdest thing.

    4) Yes

ok at this time I'm going to ask you some questions since I have vervy little info.

1 does the light on the front blink and if so how many times?

2 what is your source for video and audio? how is it hooked up?

3 is there video at all? how long does it stay on?

4 last question, when you did the update, did it have the updating screen showing the progess of the update?

one more question is the model # at the begining of the thread the correct model? if not what is the model and serial so I can look the manual up. I can see about service bulletins on the problem. If it is the model you say it is 42pf9630a there was a ambilite recall, and also the shut down problem was also due to a faulty crystal on the viper board (SSB).

Screen went black while watching, now ony have sound

Look at the venting grills, you should see whit lights inside the set. If not, the backlight inverter board may have gone out or the power supply supplying the power to the inverter board may have gone out. Those are the two places to look first. It may have bad capacitors in the power supply.

If turning the TV on and off makes no difference, try contact Phillips to see if they can talk you through a factory reset. If this does not work, the set may require service.

Samsung plasma all black screen

Black Screen come from three areas. 1- Power Supply Board 2- Inverter Board 3- Processing Board on the LCD. Since the Power Supply Board was replace, it easy to troubleshoot where the problem. lies If you cannot get the backlight, then its the inverter board. If you can use a flash light on the TV screen and can barely see the images, then the problem is indeed the inverter board. If you cannot see any images when using a flash light, then the problem comes from the LCD processing board. Let me know if you have any success. Mike
