Question about Refrigerators

Losing Cooling Fresh side is losing cooling. Freezer has ice crystal build-up on rear wall of unit. My suspicion's are defrost thermostat. Or, could it be the defrost timer? Is there a quick check to eliminate one from the equation?

Manufacture/ model helpful. can you find timer???most newer refrigs use control boards. assummong you have a timer advance it to turn into defrost (turn real slow it'll click off compressor) is it really hard to turn(feel like its sticking or turn easy??? should be a smooth turn. If enterd defrost and after 2 min you still dont hear heaterkickin on . id ck defrost thermo. located on evaporator. when cold enough the thermo should test" closed" on an ohm meter and the heater should also be closed circuit.

Refrigerator and freezer not coming up to temperature. replaced start device on compressor what else could be the issue

Some of these brand friges have a tendency to not defrost the freezer side properly. Ice builds up behind the freezer panel thus reducing air flow to the frig side. Having replaced all parts repeatedly on my WP frig, actually two of them, and losing food repeatedly, a WP repair guy said it was unrepairable. WP is crap. Their design is crap. Many side by sides are littered with cooling problems. The defroster coil, defrost sensor, and thermostat just dont work properly. In the end, I bought a diff. brand and will never buy wp again. Keep in mind how many brands are sister brands to wp and avoid them too.

Amana side by side freezer not cooling enought

With so little information all I can say is check to see if the coils underneath the refrigerator or in back behind the cover are blocked with lint or the fan is running that draws air across these coils and cools the compressor is running. Check to see if there is frost building up in the freezer on the back panel. If so then you have a defrost issue. This could be caused from a bad defrost timer control, a bad defrost heater or defrost thermostat. also check to see if the freezer fan is blowing. There could be a bad thermostat that controls the cooling it may be shutting off too soon. Check the door gaskets around the freezer and fresh food sections. If they are torn you could be losing cool air and drawing in warm air. There are so many things that could cause a poor cooling condition. All is usually fixable but the worst case scenario is a weak compressor. lets hope this is not the case.

I hope this helps.

GE Artica (pss26msrss) both the freezer and the refridgertor will not cool down...

Unplug and manually defrost with a hair drier because that ice you see on back wall of your freezer is a result of frost buildup behind that rear panel. Place all the frozen items in another safe place until the defrost is complete. Here is what your freezer may look like behind that rear panel. Not much cooling in freezer or fresh food section because this frost is blocking airflow.

The replacement parts for your model are the=> WR51X10042 Defrost Heater Assembly
And then the defrost thermostat=> WR50X10068 Defrost Thermostat

Ice in freezer, not cooling in refrigerator.

hello if you had ice on the rear wall of the freezer and your unit is not cooling like it should it is because your unit has a defrost issue. This is due to either the defrost thermostat, the defrost heater, or the defrost timer or adapative control having a fault condition. You would first remove the inside rear wall panel on the inside of the freezer which would give you access to the evaporator coil. If when you removed this panel you seen any ice build up on the coil you would defrost the ice with a hair dryer. You would also first check that the evaporator fan motor was working as well this part is what blows the cold air from the freezer in the refrigerator side of the unit. You would need a multimeter in order to test the defrost thermostat and the defrost heater by performing a continuity test on each with the power and each part unplugged if either part showed no continuity you would then replace which ever one had no continuity. If you find that both do have continuity message me back and I will instruct further on how to test the defrost timer in the unit as well or the adaptive control depending on which you do have. Most of the time this issue is caused by the defrost thermostat. If you have any further questions message me back I await your reply. Thanks

The fridge side is not cooling but the freezer is working

The cold air is not getting from the freezer to the fresh food section. At least three reasons for this.
First,if you see a frost/ice buildup on the back wall of the freezer, there is a defrost issue. The defrost circuit has at least three components: defrost timer, defrost thermostat, and a heating element. If any one of these fail ice will build up on the evaporator coil in the freezer and air will not flow through the coils to the fresh food section. The fan in the freezer moves the air, so if the compressor is running and you don't hear that fan working when you open the freezer door, that is probably the problem.(Fan problems are not rare with Amana/Maytag refrigerators). The ducts through which the air moves usually have a damper door that adjusts as needed. The damper will be in the fresh food section at the top rear. There is also a hole near the bottom in the divider wall that can ice up. If that is plugged that circle of air can't happen. That usually plugs up because of a defrost problem, however even a leaking door gasket can cause this.

Hopefully with these starting points you can zero in on it.

My ge side-by-side refrigerator/freezer isn't cooling. It started on the refrigerator side and now both sides are losing cooling capability. There is ice build up on the lower back wall of the freezer....

Yes that is right. Turn the Refrigerator off/ unplug it. Remove the rear panel of the freezer and thaw out the coils with a fan or hair dryer.

The most common problem is with the defrost heater. Using an ohm meter check the heater for continuity but unplug the 2 wires (one from each side). This should be a glass encased heater. you can also very gently pull both ends of the heater and if it is bad it will come apart instead of feeling "springy". If you have only one heater your new replacement will probably be a 2 heater kit.

Freezer working properly, but refrigerator not cooling

When there is a defrost problem begins the fresh food section is the first place it is noticed. To be sure look at the rear wall of the freezer and see if a frost line is building up on the rear wall. The PSS26MSRSS does not have a defrost timer like most refrigerators. Defrost is decided by the mother control board. The most likely problem is the defrost heater or the defrost thermostat located inside and behind the rear panel of the freezer. I can send you a service manual and help you all the way through this if you like, just let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Freezer compartment not cooling

Di a total defrost and remove the back wall cover from the freezer. Look for ice buildup in the cooling fins. If the air channel is blocked, you won't get proper freezing.

Refergirator not cooling

Defrost system failure.

Defrost system: Freezer fan, Defrost timer, Heater, Thermostat. If any one of these are bad the coils in the freezer will get clogged with ice and not allow the cold air to circulate over to the ref. side.

Ice/frost build up on the back wall of the freezer is an indication of this problem. You can manually defrost with a hair dryer which will give you a couple of days before it starts iceing up again. Remember, the ice you see on the back wall is just the tip of the iceburg, there is a lot more on the coils behind that wall.

Kitchenaid KSRA25IL Freezer working Fine - Refrigerator not

many times when a unit has a defrost problem the coils freeze up and do not allow the fresh food side to cool properly...check for a build up of ice on the inside back wall of the freezer compartment. if there is a build up of ice, you have a defrost problem. Also, check to make sure the evaporator fan in the freezer is blowing the air into the fresh food side.
