I suspect a Vertical failure in your Sony TV. This problem is pretty common and is relatively easy to repair. Often, this involves replacing the Vertical IC which is not that expensive. Basic knowledge of electronic circuitry and components, use of a soldering iron and an electronics part shop near you is all that is required. Of course standard safety precautions apply when working with HV such as in your TV.

Should you not be comfortable performing a do-it-yourself, perhaps you may need to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

If I may add, there are instances that the coupling capacitor also goes bad. This is also normal after some time due to heat buildup. Being not that expensive (a couple of dollars), it may also be worth your while to similarly replace while the set is open. This capacitor would be relatively bigger than the others in the vertical circuit and is commonly located physically near the vertical IC.

    Copy your last post/update.

That being the case, then it is not a vertical problem but a probable short/leak in the collector to emitter of the blue drive transistor. They normally can be fount in the small squarish PCB connected at the rear end of the CRT. There would be 3 of them (red, blue & green) You would need to remove the blue one and check for forward and reverse bias. At times, it could also only be a case of cold solder on the b-c-e- terminals.

Have you checked the 3 transistors at the small PCB? It could also be a resistor that opened. Usually it is either the one supplying the color drive transistors B+ or the G2 supply. All of then would be there likewise in the small PCB.

Bad Picture Blueish picture

If the red gun stops working it could make the picture very blue-greenish. This could be caused by a number of problems, including a coolant leak, but it's most likely a bad electrical connection somewhere in the set.

Best left to a professional repair guy, frankly.
