Question about Canon PowerShot S2 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

Black screen The screen is black when I turn the camera on, both on the flip out screen and if I use the view port...and yes, the lense cap is on. I have a Canon Power shot S21S and my view finder is black, but I can see the pictures I have already taken just fine when I switch the camera over to playback.

Sounds like you have a bad CCD. You can try contacting Canon to check out your options on how to get this repaired. Unfortunately the S2IS is not on their CCD recall list of cameras.

My camera shows black on the screen and view finder but when I download the memory card the pictures are there?

This may seem silly, but is it possible that you're accidentally turning the camera on to camera mode rather than review mode with the lens cap on? That would explain a black screen without being able to view images on the card. Just a thought.

Camera switches itself off unless the viewing screen is closed.the camera will still take shots using the viewing lense but will shut off immediately if the screen is opened.

This behavior comes when the camera is confused about whether the flip-screen is snapped into the camera screen out or screen in (for protection). The screen is supposed to turn off automatically when you snap it into the camera-back screen down. But if you flip and twist it in a certain way, the camera gets confused. I'll bet that if you keep your screen out, on the side of the camera, you can take pictures just as well as ever. To fix the problem, flip the screen out with the camera on, then rotate it all the different ways you can which allow you to close it with the face out. One of the orientations will leave the screen on, I believe. At least this procedure is the one I followed on my A610 to fix the same problem.

Hi!
Have you tried pushing the button first under the mode dial? It changes view mode, just above the MENU button?

No offense. Did u check if the camera was set on eyeview or LCD? Please check. sometimes ppl just forget to change the viewing from eyeview to LCD and panic. If it's working at eyeview and not working in LCD mode, plz get the LCD checked. Gud Luck

Canon A620 No Picture

First try hitting the DISP button (sorry if this offends, but many people have made this mistake). If this doesn't help, next try resetting the camera. Turn on the camera, and hold the menu button for at least five seconds. Believe reset is also in the menus.

If the above doesn't help, then unfortunately this sounds like your CCD image sensor may have failed. This would then require professional repair. Contact Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON.

Black screen when camara is in photo mode

anyone else had this? or know what to do. whatever best you can do is to take the camera to a good repairer as you can't fix the problem by yourself. there may be two possible reasons for the problem. 1) bad image sensor i.e. damaged CCD or 2)shutter blade are not working. the shutter blades may be jammed due to friction are no signal.
