I am trying to take care of this myself. Before the warranty expired 2 years ago the BEST BUY repairman replaced 2 ICs. I am hoping that's all I have to do since I have the same problem again. I ordered the parts but I have never worked on a tv myself before.

Any shop with experience should be able to replace the convergence ICs which are the likely problem. This type of repair will cost less than the boaqrd replacment and won't require a conmplete reconvergence adjustment. The parts cost around $25-$40 each (there are 2).
I would look for someone that is able to change the ICs rather than the entire board.
The proble you have is an intermittant power supply or sweep power supply. Unless you can find a bad connection on the power and deflection board, this could be a very difficult problem to find. I have ran across this problem a couple of times, and after spending countless hours troubleshooting, I replaced the main board and all the problems were taken care of. The board part number is at samsungparts.com and I found the board for you. it is located here:

Ur tv have a problems call convergence,it dead. The convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS,and some or all it resistors are dead. All these parts are dead, must be change to solved the convergence problems. The shop will cost u $300-350 for the parts and labors.
DLP projection tvs are bulky and have a design flaw in the convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS alway dies constinely require replacement,if u use about 4 or 5 hours day in and day out.If the old Mitsubishi tv several years since is was repair,u use it alot?If yes,it time to retire it,and buy the refurbish Plama tv.Not,than get the old tv repair.U Know how to solders?Tries Websites Tv repair World.com,Tvrepairkits.com to buy a convergence kit to repair it ur self.U can go to You Tube type in Convergence problems will see a tutoring video in repairing 2 STK Convergence ICS.
You have bad convergence ICs. There are 2 ICs in the convergence circuit, one is for the Blue the other is for the Red. You can buy 2 ICs for under $40.00. Replacing these ICs require soldering and desoldering skills. Sometime, the resistors in the convergence circuit go bad also. Be very careful, there is a very high voltage in a CRT projection TV the voltage is over 30,000 volts. Best of Luck Sabre
You can get replacement Ics at the following link which provides free instructions. I would recomend replacing the 4.7 ohm 1/2 watt resistors along with the two STK392-560 Ics as the resistors can get weak over time and that can lead to premature IC failure. Heres the link. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
you need to replace both convergence ICs they are both STK392-110 and you can get replacement ICs at the following link and they provide free step by step instructions with pictures so you can do the job yourself. Heres the link. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
first of all in setup mode(where convergence is)select blue screen off.then go to picture mode and either select a set mode,or enter user and manually set contrast, brightness, colour, sharpness and tint.you can acheive near hd quality this way on non hd projtv
The covergence Ics are mounted on large heat sinks they usually start with STR**** You will need to replace both & check resistors electrolytic capcitors & any circuit protecters on the same pcb as the chips.
