Question about Yamaha HTR-5790 Receiver

1 Answer

No sound coming out of back speakers when watching DVDs

I have a Yamaha HTR-5790 and I recently changes my DVD player to a Sony Blu-Ray player. I have a 6.1 setup with a Left, Center, Right, Back Right, Back Center, Back Left, and a sub. I am unable to get any sound out of the back speakers "Back Right, Back Center, Back Left" when watching DVD's. I have been using the Star Wars movies when trying to perform this test. I have the DVD player connected to the Yamaha receiver using component video cables and a ditigal cable for audio. Any assistance you could give so that I could get the full sound out of my stereo would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem, except I have two rear channels. The speakers work in the test patterns and in 7ch stereo, but not when watching movies.

I am having the same problem, I have the blu-ray player connected with an optical cable to the receiver and it only picks up the front speakers (left & right).

Make sure you have set blu ray player out put to bitstream,if you have set to pcm for hd master audio and dolby true you need to have a amp to decode this and hook up with a hdmi cable. If your amp has hdmi in and out but no high def audio you may still get multi channel audio.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,

If you only have sound from the front left and right speakers when it's set to STRAIGHT, it means the audio source is only 2 channel stereo. As the audio source is from Blu-Ray, the audio should be HD if you are using the correct type of audio cable.

I really need more information from you to give a definitive answer. If you are only using a RCA type audio cable (red/white plugs) from the Blu-Ray to the Yamaha receiver then you will only get left and right front channels on the STRAIGHT setting. This receiver does not have HDMI, so you really need to be using a digital optical audio cable to get true 5.1.

Please can you let me know how the BD player is connected to the Yamaha receiver if you need further assistance.

Thanks,
BElectric

Optical cable from DVR or DVD to receiver. TV to monitor out. Digital audio is only through optical hookup. Then hook your mic up and run the YPAO and set to auto to run the sound basic set up then when done, go back a fiddle with the manual set up and turn up speaker volume, set sound modes, etc

I have RX V861 and want to operate my sony blu ray dvd player BDP S360 with yamaha remote but no codes????

Try any older Sony DVD player code like the DVP-CX995. Sony has had the same basic codes for years. You will be missing blue, green, yellow, and red buttons since they are not available on the remote.
For a true one button solution check out the MX-900.

Yamaha 5.1 says Check SP Cable and shuts down - has been fine.

It has nothing to do with the input you choose. A speaker wire is shorted. Disconnect each one in turn and try it. The last one disconnected before it stops failing is the one.

How to hook up everything!

I have similar equipment.

You should use an audio digital cable to connect the bluray to the Yamaha receiver and another digital audio cable to connect the HD box to the Yamaha receiver.

Hope this helps.

Audio won't play on DVD - but it will play for CDs

Hello, you can verify that your receiver is working or not. When you are playing a dvd unplug the audio RCA plugs (red and white) from the back of the Sony dvd player. Touch the tips of each of the RCA plugs with your fingertip. You will hear a buzz sound coming from the speaker associated with the plug if the receiver is working\ i.e. touch the red RCA plug tip and the right speaker will hum...touch the white tip and the left speaker will hum or buzz. This will not hurt your system or speaker. If you do not hear the hum turn the volume to 3 or so and wet your fingertip and tap the tip of the RCA connectors. You will hear "pops" coming from the respected channel. I believe your cd\dvd is at fault. Good Luck!

Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Is Yamaha HTR-640 a receiver? Try HDMI from PS3 to receiver or Sony HDTV. If HDMI from PS3 to receiver the you need and HDMI from receiver to out Sony HDTV. You could connect everything to receiver and HDMI out to HDTV. You can not have an HDMI cable AND an optical cable coming out of the PS3, only one or the other.
