Question about Philips 50PP9202 50" Rear Projection Television

Power up issues

My tv developed a convergence issue (bowing at the top and bottom of the screen). After much research I decided to replace the convergence IC's and the resistors. Now that this is all done and the TV is back together, I have a new problem.

When I plug the TV in, it clicks on and off and so on. No sounds, no picture. The cannons don't fire up or anything. Click... Click click.. click.. click.. fairly random, but every 2 to 3 seconds it clicks, sometimes followed closely by another click.

I've been reading over the service manual and while I admit I don't fully understand it, I get the feeling I have a problem in the power supply. I've also read that problems on the convergence board can cause this too though.

Anyone have any suggestions what I should be looking for or how to fix this?

I replaced the original stk392-120 with new ones (same part number) I read that they can be upgraded to the 180;s, but not knowing the difference I decided to go with the 120's. As far as quality I'm not sure.

I suppose I can order new ones and try that. Would the IC's being bad cause this though? The TV did come on the one time I checked it after replacing the IC's (before replacing the resistors). Ran it briefly to see if the problem had been fixed.

I've now replace the IC's again, this time with higher quality ones. I've also checked all the resistors that I had already installed (all test ok). Still not powering up. Doing the same thing.

Hello I have a mitsubishi vs-45603 with what appears to be a convergence problem.

You may have bought bad chips or your soldering...
This is a common problem on many brands of Projection Tv sets. Its usually a convergence issue. You can get more details and a solution here on fixya using this link http://www.fixya.com/support/r11932741-convergence_repair_dull_video_repair

Help with RCA projection TV P46812BL (chasis ptk195AA)

You have probably blown one of the convergence ICs. Effectively the easiest thing to do is replacing the whole convergence board, so that no soldering is involved.

Here you can buy a replacement convergence board, just select your model.

Let me know if you need further help.

The pic is off there is bowing at the top and

Picture becoming distorted at the top/bottom of the screen is due to the convergence circuit going bad, and is a common issue with big screen projection TVs.

The convergence circuits will need to be repaired, which will generally require some soldering and ordering new parts for ~$75. If you want to get a TV technician to repair it then you will probably be looking in the region of about $300 for a repair.

Here is a link to repair guide for a Mitsubishi TV. Obviously a different model, but the convergence circuits are generally the same for most makes/models - this will give you an idea of the work involved to fix it: http://www.techlore.com/article/22530/DIY-Repair-Replacing-Convergence-IC-s-on-a-Mitsubshi-TV-Set/

Sony KP-53V75 picture problem

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem as shown below. Doing so will only make things worse.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

CONVERGENCE ISSUE *UPDATED* RCA HD52W63D

Convergence Power supply board. In the television above the cuircit boards there are two curcit boards that sort of hang above. the one on the right is the convergence amplifer board(has metal fin like heat sinks).. The one on the left is the convergence power board. Since you have options and no control, bowing picture. this would be my first choice. Now it still may have convergence amplier trouble. To get these boards you will have to get the entire model with suffix ext. it will be like d52w20...yx1 yx2 or something like that. in small leter on the model sticker on back

Bowed in at top and bottom and colors are separated

You have a convergence issue. First question in customer menu under setup do you have the convergence optioin? IF you DO NOT then chances are you have the fl231 problem. check under my profile in the tips and trick section. IF you do have the option try autoconvergence. if this fails(goes red screen then you might have a convergence power supply problem.

Hitachi Ultravision 50" projection Tv

This is an indication of convergence issues. There are two ic chips that control this and there is a likely hood of there failure and need to be replaced. there possible other issues with ouput resistors and fuses. At my shop the cost to replace these chips are 200 to 350. not a too difficult repair.

Distorted Screen for RCA HD56w66

convergence is the problem. first question do you have convergence in the customer setup menu. if you do not it could be a special small fuse if you do have "convergence" in the setup menu then you most likely have a convergence power board issue. and generally they are replaced. in our shop such board replacement average 124 labor and about 100 for part. if the fuse bout 15 for part and 80 for labor. there are solder connection that cause the blown fuse
