Question about HP LaserJet 1100 Printer
My laserjet 1100 was just put on a different computer. When plugged in and connected to the pc it began printing page after page of gargled text, nothing but one line of strange characters on each page. It won't stop. If I disconnect it from the PC it stops. Can't print a test page, can't reset the printer, nothing. It refuses to do anything except print these garbage pages non-stop. I have tried holding down the button long enough to reset everything, tried re-installing drivers, etc. I hope it is a simple connection issue like it not doing well with xp or something to this effect. I am using MS Windows XP and am having a problem getting anything to print to my HP Laserjet 1100 printer. I love my printer and it doesn't give me a problem when using another computer in the house (that one has Windows 2000). Could the problem be that I am using a USB to Parellel Port converter to print? My new Compaq computer doesn't have a COM port to connect to, so I needed to get the USB to Parellel converter to print with this printer. Can anyone please help????
The problem isn't with the printer. Make sure that your particular printer is specified in the printers folder. If, for instance, you have a Lexmark printer specified and hook up an HP, the HP will print garbage.

In reading this HP forum I have found many other LaserJet 1100 owners who are trying to do the same thing as you.
Many of them recommend various cable solutions from Sewell. When you contact Sewell, make sure to specify your printer model, and ask what specific cables and/or adapters you need to make it work vis USB. They sound quite knowledgeable, and seem to have dealth with this before.
