Frigidaire side by side with ice maker .. ice maker jams and quits making ice

Hi,
Hollow ice cubes are a result of lack of water to ice maker. This can be caused by lack of water pressure (clogged filter, bad water valve, obstructed fill tube, etc..) you will need to find the cause to correct this hollow ice cube issue. The ice maker should take on 5.5 oz of water when it cycles (2/3 cup). Mot of the time its a water supply issue and the line could be kinked behind the unit as it was rolled back into place.

Good Luck

Hi

Hollow ice is a sign of not enough water going into tray. Replace the water inlet valve or the fill and shut-off valve for problems with both parts. Hollow ice cubes usually indicate a low water problem. This is generally the result of an excess buildup of calcium and other deposits.Replace the self-piercing shut-off valve with a drill-type shut-off valve.Drill a 1/4-inch hole into the pipe and installs the shut-off valve the same way you would have installed the self-piercing valve.

My ice maker is frosting up. Why is this and what can I do?

Hello,

There can be a number of reasons from an unlevel icemaker (I like to adjust to lean a little towards the wall or backside) to high water pressure, bad fill tube, or low water pressure (low fill).

The most common is making hollow cubes that break open and the water freezes up the rest of the cubes in the bin. In that case you will have lots of shards or hollow cubes.

This is caused most often by a low fill but can be because of a bad icemaker thermostat.

The thermostat is located in the front end and most icemakers fill starting in the rear. If it is not filling all the way to the front where the thermostat is located it cycles before the cubes are fully frozen putting water in the bin that settles in the bottom.

That is most often due to a tap valve or icemaker outlet faucet that is getting plugged up.

Turn it off and after the cubes are frozen check to make sure it is filling all the way to the head end where the motor is located. You should have ice in all the sections.
But if otherwise,

Usually when that happens it means you have an air leak in your ice door flapper, get a flashlight and shine it down in the ice maker chute, if you see light on the other light, you will need a new ice dispenser door.

Hope this helpout.....

Ice is dumped before totally frozen.

Sounds like a water valve problem. The hollow ice cubes are the giveaway. This means not enough water. only things it can be is the ice maker is not turning on the water valve long enough or the water valve is restricted or the water valve has been leaking and has frozen the fill tube. and is only leting out a small amount of water in this case as well you will still need a new water valve.

start with water valve and if that does not solve the problem you will need to replace the ice maker.

Frigidaire Model # GLRS267dzw2 ice maker isn't filling up with water too make ice.

As every technician knows , a water and ice dispensor refrig , has a dual water inlet valve . Just because the water dispensor works , does not mean the coil for the ice maker is working . Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it dumps the frozen cubes , but does not refil with water , check the fill tube inside the freezer , from the wall to the fill cup on the ice maker , to see if it is frozen . If so , replace the dual water inlet valve , due to seeping . This is not closing completely , and letting drips thru , which freeze inside the tube . If the tube is not frozen , then the water inlet valve is bad , not letting water thru to the ice maker .
If the ice maker does not dump the frozen cubes , then the ice maker needs to be replaced . Also check the coils under the refrig , to be sure they are clean of dust , lint , etc , as this will raise the temp above 5 degrees , which is the operating temp , for an icemaker .

The cubes are hollow and keep get stuck when they try dispence

The cubes are hollow? Means not enough water coming in on the fill cycle to fill the metal ice tray (netal form, see solution #2). There should be an adjustment under the end cover, looks like a screw with a spring around it. Look inside the cover and see if the directions are there for adjusting it properly.

Maytag msd2356ae ice maker will only give me hollow ice any ideas.

Hi,
Hollow ice cubes are most often cause by insufficient water supply. Icemakers fill for about 7.5 seconds, resulting in about 4.75 oz. (140 cc) of water into the ice cube mold. If there s not enough water pressure available at the fridge, cubes may end up hollow and/or the fill could continue to dribble, eventually causing the fill tube to freeze closed.
pls rate my suggestion.........

Whats happening is the ice isnt freezing all the way. Try cleaning your condensor's under the frig.In Hotter weather when condensor's get filled with dust it causes the frig to cycle to ofeten. In turn your cubes aren't freezing all the way.

No Ice From Kitchen Aid

Mark, your water valve has screwed the pooch. Replace it. The part number is 2199838.

What's happening is this... the valve that fills your ice maker is by-passing a small amount of water. This water has to flow through that tube, right? When very small amounts (drop by drop) go through the IM fill tube, they flash freeze. Eventually they (the frozen drops of water) form a big block of ice inside the fill tube. This ice creates a blockage which creates back-pressure whenever the IM "calls" for water. The back pressure eventually blows the tube off of the connection behind the fridge.

You say that this happened over night... no way. If you look closely at the ice cubes that you IM has been making, you'll see that they are hollow. Hollow cubes means that your IM isn't getting enough water... (because the fill tube is blocked).

Admiral Refrigerator makes hollow ice

Hollow ice cubes are due to low water pressure to the fridge. Water thru the door should have good pressure behind it. This is a good indicator of water pressure. Should be able to fill a glass quickly. Causes for low pressure are self-piercing saddle valves on the water line (switch to drill type (1/4") valve) or reverse osmosis system or filtering system on water line to the fridge. R.O. systems should not be used. Increase water pressure and that will fix the hollow cubes. The loud noise may be the sound of the water valve on the fridge when it is acivated. This sound is normal and some are louder than others.
