Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I took lint filter out to clean it and forgot to put it back in, I started gas dryer and it stopped, I believe there is a sock stuck in there somewhere. Does the front come off and what do I need to take apart to find sock so that dryer will start again?

Hello Kims987K,
You may want to check circuit breakers in your Breaker Panel to see if the one for your Dryer is tripped, and reset it if it is. Even though you have a Gas Dryer the Drum still operates on electricity, so without it the Dryer wouldn't function at all.
I don't think that the sock is stopping your Dryer, as the lint filter just filters lint from your Dryer's exhaust. So, even with the lint filter out a sock couldn't fit through the small holes in the drum that ventilate it (that's how the lint gets to the filter). I guess there could be a switch that detects whether the filter is in the machine and cut it off though, so you may try to re seat the lint filter (replace the lint screen/filter making sure it's in all the way), and try to start it again. If you look inside the Drum and see any way that a sock or anything else could get out other than through the door opening? That would be a problem.
If the filter was missing for several loads of laundry? Then you could have a restriction in the exhaust causing a thermal overload circuit to cut it off too (prevents the Dryer from catching fire). Does the light come on in the Dryer when you open the door?
From the information you posted, all I got is that it's a Gas Dryer that won't run and you appear to be missing a sock, so more detailed information will probably help in finding your solution.
I'll check back, and Good Luck finding that sock.

you need to clean out the dryer or have someone come in to do it.unplug the dryer, remove the lint filter and then you have to remove the duct that the filter slides into and clean that but you have to take the dryer apart to do this, next you have to vac out the cabinet where the motor is and clean out the vent line,if it's a long run i use a leaf blower to do this, remove the vent line from the back of the dryer,go outside and make sure the vent is clear then go back inside stick the leaf blower into the vent line and blow all the lint outside.you have lint stuck in the tracks that the lint filter slides into, get a skinny long screw driver and poke out the lint,if you have an electric dryer you should do this once every two years if it's gas once a year so you don't have a fire, next time send the model number and the name of the machine you need help with so i can help you better,if you don't know how to take apart the dryer send the model number and i can help you but there is lint stuck in the tracks that the filter slides down into and if that's like that then you need to clean out the dryer

After one load, dryer stopped working. lint

With the exhaust clear, you need to be sure that air is actually moving. It could be a bound or bad exhaust blower.

Yes,remove the front panel to clear the jam. Carefully inspect the blower wheel after it is cleared. The blower wheel must not be loose on the motor shaft.

I ran the dryer without the lint filter in it and now it is noisy

First of all, You have a serious safety issue. Your dryer may catch fire. DO NOT USE YOUR DRYER.

Something went into the mechanism (yes, may be another sock), and a lot of lint went inside the dryer. The dryer needs to be cleaned by a technician. Using the dryer on its condition may cause a fire. Don't get your house burned down just to save some money doing it by yourself.

Won't spin or start

Sounds like the screen/sock combo got the tub in a bind and the drum belt broke.

If you want to pursue replacing the belt, let me know.

Drum Stuck

First, take off the top of your dryer. Use a screwdriver to pry the top up in front, then it's usually held on by some swing metal hinges on the back that simply come off by themselves as you rotate the top of the unit up and back. Then, you should be able to see all the screws and metal brackets holding the front of the unit on, remove all of these and you should be able to pull the front off. It may be necessary to unplug some of the wires when doing this. Then you should have full access to the front lint filter section on the door, and the fan section underneath the drum. The fan and the drum spin together, so if the sock is stuck in the fan that will also stop the drum. Good luck

Bosch Dryer lint filer warning

The Bosch Dryer has a temperature probe in the heater exit and in the exhaust area visible when you open the door. If the temperature difference between the two gets to high, the lint filter is assumed to be plugged and the alarm goes off.

It seems that the temperature probe at the heater, can end up with a faulty connection to the control panel over time due to corroded contacts or lint build up. When this happens the control panel thinks the filter is clogged and it may also not turn on the heating elements properly. Remove the back cover over the heating element (12 screws) and then remove the one screw holding the red wiring connection to the dryer body. You can then wiggle out the wiring connection and clean / unplug and replug in the connector for the sensor. (plug with two small wires only). A little hard feeding the connector back through the hole so take your time and don't damage the wires). Should all work again. May want to inspect inside the heater at same time and make sure the overheating switch is not tripped. ( press in the red button).
