Question about Microtek ScanMaker s400

Computer does not recognize scanner

Microtek s400 flatbed scanner
Windows 2000 OS

Installed from install CD and the computer does not recognize the scanner. Removed scanner software and then installed latest drivers from Microtek site (turned off virus program and all of other programs to do this), but still computer does not recognize scanner. When I use control panel/scanner to install and point to the driver location it says that there is not enough information for the device in that location.

Windows 2000 Pro Service Pack 4 OS

On the box it says that is supports Windows 2000 (which I am being to doubt).

The Microtek guys had me uninstall removing the microtek directory and then reinstall in safe mode. The computer still does not see the scanner. I see the USB it is pluged into, but it does not recognize the device and there is not enough information around the .inf file to tell it about the scanner when I try to reinstall the driver. Microtek support only has email support which it takes 48hrs for a response, so if anyone out there has some great ideas I would love to fix this issue and actually use the scanner.

Ensure that the scanner is compatible with the operating system you have installed on your pc,as some older scanners are not with XP & vista

good luck

This sometimes works, browes the driver cd and manually run the setup or install file by double clicking it (in fact try any file that will run) it has worked for me a couple of times.

    good luck

You can still download the driver, but since you didn't mention the name of the operating system installed on your computer, I am unable to make this specific. Click HERE for Windows XP driver. Let me know with more details if you need further help.
Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Find what windows have installed Right Click 6. Update Driver Software.. 7. Click - Browse my computer for driver software 8. Click - Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer 9. Click - Have Disk 10. Browse to your desktop or position where you extracted 6.63, point to "....drv_sw5_v6_63_ad\Disk1\Vista\AMD64\..." Pick any of INF files I picked first 11. You will see 4800 Scanner and USB 2.0 Scanner, I picked first 4800 then USB 2.0 and both works.

Windows 7 won't read the microtek scanmaker 4900

In case you haven't noticed, there aren't any drivers for your scanner for Windows7 from Microtek. So you have to wait till Microtek anounce new drivers, or try the WinXP version with your own risk.

In case of a problem, don't hesitate to post.

I have a microtek scanner model #4900 which I gave to a good friend who has the new windows 7 operating system how do I get the driver files to enable it to work on her machine?

On the Microtek web site, I only see an XP driver. Your friend could try installing a generic TWAIN compliant scanner that is included in the Windows 7 OS or try to install the XP driver using the XP SP3 compatability mode (right click on the file, choose Properties and then the Compatability tab). Those drivers are at http://support.microtek.com/downloads/drv_specific.phtml?slct_os=8&prod=14&bymdlnme=1 .

A different method is available on Win7 Pro or Ultimate. Download and install the XP mode to create a virtual computer running Windows XP. Install the scanner to this "second" computer. Your friend will probably need to save the files to external media to transfer them between the two "computers".

I hope this helps.

My s400 works with Vista but not Windows 7, I

It will work with win 7 but it is complicated.

Download driver from the Microtek website
extract the files to your drive
locate the setup.exe file where you extracted the files
after the driver is installed reboot the pc

Now for the fun part...

Once PC is fully rebooted plug in Scanner ScanMaker s400
Windows looks for drivers in “windows update” and the “preconfigured driver folder”
Windows cannot find a driver.
Close “Driver Software Installation” window
Open Device Manager
Device manager shows yellow bang next to “USB scanner” under “Other Devices”
Right click on usb scanner
click “update driver software”,
Click on “Browse my computer for driver software”
Click on “let me pick from list of device drivers on my computer”
Click on “Imaging Devices”
Click Next
Under Manufacture there is no Microtek
Click on “Have Disk”
Click on Browse
Locate ScanWizard 5 V6.63 folder
Locate Disk 1
Locate Vista
Locate X86
There is a list of INF files
Choose first inf file, “Mii_x86_004.inf”
Click Open
Click OK
Now under Manufacture two entries are listed, Microtek and Microtek Driver Team,
On the other side there is a list devices s400 is not listed
There is an entry for 4800 Scanner
Select it and click next
An “update Driver Warning” opens select yes
Window now shows successful driver update.
And the scanner is listed as 4800 scanner
Click close
Close device manager
Open Scan wizard program
Scanner works fine.
The scanner will not work nativly with windows scanning.

Won't recognize scanner when installed

First, make sure your computer has been updated to at least Windows XP Service Pack 1....Service Pack 2 is even better. You can check this by right-clicking on my computer and selecting Properties from the menu. If you're using Service Pack 1 or earlier...it would be a good idea to run through the Windows Update process a few times.

Try downloading a new Scan Wizard file from this page on the MicroTek web site. When you do the install, it should remove any previous drivers and clean things up.

If this doesn't help, try to find the Windows Scanner and Camera Wizard...usually located under Start>All Programs>Accessories. It may work even if the MicroTek software doesn't.

Good luck...and I hope this is helpful!
