Thanks for the help, I am still having trouble getting the toner cartridge off. There are a set of black plastic clips in front and silver metal clips in back. Which clips do you refer to?

The pictures skip the actural removal of the toner cartridge and just show you shaking the cartridge.

Is there a owners manual somewhere I could download???

Thank You for your help, but I am still befuddled

It's very easy to remove. If you have not forced it off by now, and cause a major toner spill. If you look on the toner box or the inside of the front door it has pictures that show you how to install and remome the toner. The trick is that you have too push the plastic piece that has stop on it back into the closed position. Then while holding the developing ass'y firmly, you have to press the black part of the developing ass'y to release the toner cartridge. You may have to use a pen point to helpe release or move the two clips that hold the toner bottle to the developing ass'y. Once the cartridge is released remove it and reinstall the developing ass'y and lock it in place and close the front door and make your copies. As a last note, if you can toss the used cartridge down the hall way in discuss.

How about this for a idea. When you pulled the orange tab that has Stop on it. You acturely open the developing ***'y to let the toner in. Right under the stop strip two trays slide out and you pushed both back in. Following?? Right in the front of the developing there is a black plastic rectangle .75"X3" with ridges on it. Hold the developing ***'y firmly and press in on that till the toner cartridge is released or press the "?" on the control pannel and scroll untill you see adding tong and it will walk you throw it. Good Luck......

Cartridges error on a lexmark

Error: "Invalid Toner Cartridge"; Error: "Invalid Refill"; Message: "Change Cartridge"
Solution
One of these error messages may appear on the printer display immediately after or shortly after a new toner cartridge is installed into the printer. Note: This may not be specifically a toner cartridge problem; the error may be due to a stuck cover open switch on the printer.

To see if the cover open switch is the cause of this problem, open the top front cover and observe the message on the printer's display panel. The display should read Close Door or Insert Cartridge.

If this message is not displayed, the top cover open sensor and switch will need to be replaced. In addition, the printer may have damaged the new toner cartridge. If the cover open sensor is not operating properly, a new cartridge can be incorrectly flagged as a refilled cartridge by the printer. If this happens, the new cartridge will continue to cause an Invalid Refill or Invalid Cartridge error even if you try reinstalling it or installing it into another printer. If this should occur, please contact the point of purchase of the cartridge to find out how to get the cartridge replaced.

Caution: If the cover open sensor is not operating, do not install another new toner cartridge until you have completed the directions below. Inserting another new cartridge can cause that cartridge to stop working as well. Should this situation arise, please take the following actions:

Place the original working cartridge (the empty or near-empty one) back into the printer. This should clear the error message.

Turn the printer off. Doing this will disengage the cover open sensor.

With the printer switched off, open the top lid and remove the old toner cartridge.

Now replace the old cartridge with another new Lexmark toner cartridge.

Power the printer back on. The printer should now read this cartridge as a newly installed toner cartridge and the error should be cleared. The printer and toner cartridge should function properly now, but the top cover sensor on the printer will still need to be replaced.

If your printer is still under warranty or covered under a service contract, please contact Lexmark Technical Support or your service provider for further recommendations and instructions. Until you can get the cover open switch replaced, remember to have the printer powered off whenever you replace the toner cartridge.

If the top cover switch appears to be working fine, or if you have followed the above steps and your printer continues to post an Invalid Toner Cartridge or Invalid Refill error, make sure you are using a new original Lexmark toner cartridge. A toner cartridge remanufactured or refilled by a third party can cause this error.

To help identify a refilled cartridge, look for the yellow label attached to the toner drum and the body of the toner cartridge. If this is damaged or removed, the cartridge may have been refilled.

If you are using a third-party refilled or remanufactured toner cartridge, it is recommended that you install a new Lexmark brand toner cartridge. Lexmark cannot guarantee the compatibility of any third-party toner cartridges with our printers.

OR

1 Switch on the Lexmark X83 printer.

2 Lift open the cartridge door at the front of the device, below the scanner unit. The printer automatically moves the cartridge carrier to the correct position.

3 Pull each ink cartridge toward you to unclasp it from the carrier. Lift the cartridge out of the cartridge carrier.

4 Clean the copper contacts on the bottom of each cartridge with a clean, dry lint-free cloth. Use a gentle, circular motion to clean the contacts.

5 Insert the ink cartridges back into the cartridge carrier. Push back firmly on each cartridge until it snaps into place.

6 Repeat each step in this procedure again. Close the cartridge door.

How to refill ink in it

The printer doesn't use ink, it uses toner, a black powder. The toner is then pushed onto the page using magnetic force and fused to the paper using a laser. Which replaces the traditional "ink injection" method.

The toner cartridge is a black unit that pulls out located behind the top access panel in the front. This unit contains a glass drum and behind it a well of toner powder. Usually you have to replace the entire unit.

There are toner cartridges with plastic caps which can be removed and then refilled with the powder. However, this powder is messy, difficult to manage, and eventually the drum will become scratched and worn since it is not really designed for prolonged use. So I recommend just replacing it.

While the toner cartridge will run more than ink. The frequency with which you have to replace it is significantly less. So while ink can run you as much as $0.25 a page when you factor in the wear and tear on the printer. Laser printers are more along the lines of $0.04 a page.

If you replace the toner, read the directions carefully and be sure to remove the plastic shipping strip from the side of the cartridge. This strip is used to hold the toner in the cartridge while it ships and will keep it from working properly.

My Minolta Magicolor 2500W printer indicates that it is out of black toner. I have never changed the toner cartridge before and cannot find the instruction manual. (bought it almost 3 years ago...) Do I...

Firstly buy a black toner refill and a "CHIP". The chip is a small printed circuit carrying a chip, mounted on the top right hand corner of the toner cartridge held in by a small cross point screw. Remove the cartridge and looking at the right end you will see a round (About 3/4 inch dia) plastic bung. Lift this bung out and carefully refill the cartridge (The refill supplier will probably clarify this I am saying). Replace the bung, clean up all the messy dust and remove the old chip replacing it with the new one. Make sure you dont lose the little screw and insert it fully without over turning it. Thereafter all should be OK.

My Sharp AL 1000 has quit copying!

The triangle or stack of 6 dots is the toner cartridge light. The drum light looks like a cylinder or aa battery.
If you open the right side door, then the front door you will see the 2 cartridges. The toner cartridge is on the left and should have a large green button you push down on to release and slide out. Later or when needed you can slide out the drum cartridge AFTER you remove the toner.
You might have a local source to get your toner cartridge refilled. Or just order a new one and unpack it, then slide it in and your all set.
About $50 for refill or about $100 for new.
Good Luck

The printer will sudden come up with the Toner Empty message and stop printing. This only happens on the black toner cartridge. I have replaced the cartridge twice when then cartridge was clearly not...

There are two ways to continue printing:
Setting the menus to allow continued printing after it reports a toner empty
Mechanically resetting the toner cartridge

there is a way to reset the toner cartridge essentially fooling the printer into thinking it has a brand new cartridge. It has a mechanical linkage which will display a small shiny surface when deemed empty by a SW gas meter. (number of dots printed) To reset this linkage it is necessary to remove 3 phillips screws on the end of the toner cartridge which faces the back of the printer. Don't touch the rubber roller or you will get toner all over yourself and possibly contaminate the roller. If touched use rubbing alcohol on a swab to clean off the oil spot. Then on the bottom of the cartridge there is a small black phillips screw going through a copper contact. remove the screw. Lift the copper contact slichtly and pull the plastic end cap off the toner cartridge. remove and reinsert the black plastic interlock device (slides on a plastic rail) such that the sliver surface is fully retracted. replace the end cap, guiding the copper strap in place. Reinsert the 4 screws. Reinsert the used cartridge and keep on printing! Should save you about 20% on the needless replacement of perfectly good toner cartridges. I expect you could refill the cartridge as well if you wanted. Looks like there is a plug under the color coded handle in the front of the cartridge. Be sure to reset the latch as described also.
I hope your problem gets solved. Regards, Nandini.

Removed 3 color toner cartridges and slid green slides and still can't clear "drum error"

clean the toner cartridges copper contacts then clean the part where the cartridges sit and while the printer is powered on pull out the power cable from the wall as well as the printer and wait for 30 seconds then reconnect the power cable into the wall socket and then into the printer and re-insert the cartridges and wait and see if the error comes up.
if it still does then I hope you are not using refilled cartridges If you are then your printer may have gone bad.
Try changing the cartridges and check the expiry date if it is beyond expiry that is another problem why you are getting that error.
If the above mentioned fails replace the toners and then check if you still face this issue you need to replace your printer

Sharp copier ar-bc320 error code??

the DK message means it is time to replace the black drum unit. the drum unit is called an ARC26DU. open the front cover. remove the toner cartridge/s by lifting the green lever and pulling the toner out. Open the left side door. look at where you just pulled out the toner and there is one screw (facing you) holding each drum in place - loosen the screw and pull the drum unit out towards you....slide in the new drum unit.
to reset drum counter go into SIM mode by pressing the following keys one after the other "P" "*" "C" "*" then 24 and start/copy key then 7 then select the color drum you are replacing and confirm reset. make sure copier restarts afterwards

DO NOT refill these toner cartridges (even if you can find someone to do it) The toner cartridges for these machines have generally had ongoing problems as far as longevity and quality - refilling them will only make it worse.

I don't know how to remove and install toner for my sharp ar-337

If you go here:
http://www.sharpusa.com/files/cop_man_ar287_337_407.pdf
You can download the operation manual for that machine, on page 4-5 they explain how to replace the toner and have pictures showing how.
here is the text on how to replace.

Adding Toner
1 Open the front cover.
2 Pull down the toner hopper lock lever and pull the toner
hopper out slowly until it stops.
3 Tap on the top of the toner cartridge 5 times. Hold the
new toner cartridge vertically and vigorously shake it
up and down about 20 times, then invert the cartridge
and again shake it up and down about 20 times. This will
loosen the toner and allow it to flow more easily into the
toner hopper.
4 Place the new toner cartridge with the tabs in the
notches as shown.
5 Slide the toner cartridge along the guides over the toner
hopper.
6 Hold the toner cartridge with one hand while pulling on
the sealing tape to remove it.
7 Tap on the top of the toner cartridge 5 times to start the
flow of toner into the toner hopper.
l If the toner cartridge was sufficiently shaken as described in step
3, it will take about 50 seconds for the cartridge to empty. Do not
remove the cartridge until it is empty. If not empty, tap on the top
of the cartridge again until empty.
8 Slide the empty toner cartridge back along the guides
and remove it.
l The cartridge opening will be closed as it is moved back along
the guides.
9 Slide the toner hopper into the copier and return the
toner hopper lock lever into place.
10 Close the front cover.
NOTE:
Add only one cartridge of toner.
