I tried this, but it still did not change the device in the Sound, Speach Audio device screen. The driver is now a digital driver versus AC97.

I have installed the driver, but the system has not changed. Could this be some type of virus?

I've installed a new card and the same thing has applied. The card show to be installed, but it shows no device in the Sound, Speach and Audio Devices. What now?

I figured out the problem, the msconfig had a selective startup and Process System.ini and Process Win.ini were not checked. once I checked them both, the sound came back.

Thank you so much for the help you supplied.

Befor doing all this, naturally check that you didn't domute all in the volume settings. Anyway, if you had device listed in device manager and no audio device it can be either the driver (90% it is) or your audio card is gone faulty, in that case you will need to buy a pci audio card, which normally is not expensive. But usually in this case is the driver

As far as I know the Compaq Presario 5000 should have an ADI SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio Controller.

If your pc is a presario 5000, and you are using default soundcard on the motherboard, then you have wrong drivers

    download drivers from website.

reinstall device using adi drivers from hp.

It is not a typical virus behaviour. If you did everything correctly and it still does not work, then your sound card may be faulty and in need to be changed.

In this case go to nearest pc shop and buy a pci soundcard, they start from $15.

Here is a tutorial on how to fit pci card inside pc. Do not forget to disconnect pc from power outlet.

did you installed drivers provided for new card as explained in new card tutorial in box?

If yes I need a screenshot of device manager with sound devices expanded and a screenshot of device manager audio device properties from sound and audio device and also sound mixer. Here is an example of how they should be:

also check that mute all is not selected.

    regards

it would seem that your audio card or audio processor chip has died. If this is a desktop (or tower) pc, you may have an audio card plugged into the motherboard (mainboard). This can be removed and replaced. If the audio plugs come directly out of the motherboard you should still have open slots on the motherboard where you can plug in a new replacement sound card. what you need to do is determine what type of slots you have open, they are most likely standard PCI slots. You would need to go to a computer store like Best Buy and ask them to point out a new audio card to install in your system it should come with a disc which includes the drivers needed and installation instructions.

I'VE SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED MY SOUND CARD (C-MEDIA CMI8738 FOR XP) AND I SEE NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER DEVICES ON MY PC BUT I DON'T HEAR A SOUND FROM MY HEADSET WHEN I TRY TO TEST TO PLAY A MUSIC....

I'm assuming that the previous audio drivers have been uninstalled. The card must be made aware that you have speakers and/or headphones plugged in. First open Control Panel > Sounds and make sure the volume is set at maximum and the correct setup is selected - stereo , desktop speakers. Then take out whatever you have plugged in it, reboot the pc, wait for everything to stop (antivirus update, the launching of all the programs) then open the C-Media Power Mixer and verify in there that all the volumes are at maximum. Then connect the plug in the green socket of the card - a popup should appear to ask you what you plugged in. If it doesn't then you will have to do it manually:

I have no audio device on my optiplex 360 windows vista ive tried to download but everything fails

First check the BIOS. Look on integrated devices. Audio. make sure its enabled.

if BIOS is enabled and still no audio device from device manager.

Replace MOBO..

if audio goes to a Audio Card/ Expansion then replace card alone.

hope this helps.

No sound on my pc

Go to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices
Ensure that sound card is the default playback and default recording device.
Also, if this is a Dimension 5100, then there is a possibility that the system has a upgrade sound card installed in a PCI expansion slot (Below the video card)
If the system has an expansion card, (Soundblaster) then the integrated on-board audio should be disabled in the BIOS (If integrated is on and an expansion card is installed, you get a conflict and no sound) Normally, if the system has an expansion card, the ports are covered with a black plastic cover. If the BIOS defaults are ever reset, then onboard audio needs to be disabled again.

I have an ABS laptop. I have gone into control

First make sure nothing is muted.
Start>Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices

If nothing is muted, and your volumes are up and still no sound, try updating your audio drivers,

Start>Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Sound Video and Game Controllers

Right click your audio drive and select Update driver.

Sound does not work, restore points are completly gone

dear friend.
the red X appears on the sonud icon in vista when the driver you have installed is incompatible withh the hardware.

try these steps
*check your speakers
if it fails
then

*go to device manager
*from the sound and video uninstall sound devices
*restart your pc
*the drivers should be detected by now

*if the above steps fail
*after uninstalling the sound devices
*click on search for hardware changes
*then proceeed with automatic install(make sure you are connected to internet)
note: the automatic driver installaion in vista is a bit slow so be patient.

Sound card

As Acqwerty says, check your audio volume first, put the volume on everything up. Do you have an onboard or seperate sound card? If its onboard you have to make sure its enabled, this is done in the control panel, sound/audio devices. If its a card you put it, check the drivers, and make sure there are no other cards running on the same port as your soundcard, also done in control panel.

check if you have right driver installed for your card ,and your integrated (realtek)chipset on your mobo ,than if its ok than go to,>control panel>sounds and audio devices>audio ,and check if your sound card is as a default audio device in the sound playback section ,and if this is 5.1 or 7.1 card check if your speakers are plugged into the right connectors and check advanced options to set up what kind of speakers you have plugged
