Na. Hes probably got the RF gain all the way down. If it were an SWR problem he would see the red light, and people most likely would not be able to hear him, and he would hear other people.

Turn you RF gain all the way up and leave it there. There is no need to turn it down unless you are trying to not hear any one far away at all or on a fox hunt.

Sounds like an SWR (signal to wave ratio) problem. You can purchase an SWR meter to tune your ant. SWR is basically how much power is lost going from you cb to the ant. CB's put out 5watts and on "tuned" ant you get about 3.8 watts of power. The lower the swr the less power output.

You can tune yourself with an swr meter or take it to a cb shop

hope this helps

Can you hear anyone on the CB? Does anyone actually use CB these days.

Check the connections to the antenna. Did you tune the antenna with a SWR meter?

Yes, people should.
As long as your antenna is connected up and you can hear people, they can hear you.

Can any body help I just bought a cobra 29lxeu multi standard radio is there a problem with the receive on these radios as had this radio hooked up to my homebase antenna on my homebase im...

What you describe is not standard for this radio. It should receive as good as any of the others you have. Are you sure you have all the knobs and switches set right. This radio is more complicated to operate than the previous versions. I personally do not operate one of the new LXs but I do seem to recall they have a RF Gain knob. This should be turned clockwise all the way. Look through the manual. You will be surprised and some of the features the radio has you didn't know about.

No signal at night

What you are hearing during the day must be what is called "skip". Skip is active during the day where you will hear radio operators from hundreds of miles away. Their signal is bouncing off an atmospheric layer well aboe the earth's surface. At night this atmospheric layer degrades and then so does the skip. Unless there is someone close to your vicinity transmitting on the channel you are listening too, you will not hear much at all. Try changing the channels until you pick up a conversation.

I have cobra 25 ltd and i,m picking up signals from hundreds of miles away can i tune it down to pick up more locally

Try turning down the RF gain. It is the 2nd knob to the left of the channel selector. This will limit skip stations and receive only local higher signal stations to come through. Do not turn it too low or you won't hear much of anything. Hope it helps.

Hi, my name is John. Welcome to FixYa. Check that you have a good ground on your antenna and that nothing is blocking the rod (element) any metal or any objects, set the squelch to max. Check your SWR on the antenna. If you need further assistance, let me know, always glad to help you. Thanks for choosing FixYa....John

I am to trasmitt and receive while ignition key is off but when i turn key on i still am able to transmitt but i receive a lot of stastic. I have replaced the antenna and co ax and redone the ground.

Hi, my name is John. That noise you hear is probably coming from switch, such as ,seat belt warning, door, light, key switch , exc. Try running your CB wire strait to the battery, and see if it stops. If not, Radio Shack sells a noise limiter that goes in line with your connection, don't know how much. Do you have your noise limiter or noise blanker switch on the radio?...hope this was very helpful....

Is it my CB antenna or something else

First off, Midland makes a fine radio. Make sure your squelch is turned all the way down to receive distant signals (down meaning counter clockwise). The through the glass antennas are not the best thing in the world. I personally use a 102" whip and a 6" spring on a modified mirror mount. It is installed on the tailgate side of the tool box. The TX and RX is amazing. Wilson and K40 make great antennas also.

Rushing sound (noise) galaxy 88 HL

RUSHING SOUND ?
1. Get the noise then disconnect the coax and see if noise goes away on receive, if noise goes away then address the ground on your antenna,
if noise still there then address the ground wire from power source
