Ingersoll Rand Single Stage Cast Iron 3 Hp Air Compressor - 60 Gal., Vertical Logo
Anonymous Posted on Mar 06, 2010

I have an Ingersoll Rand compressor (RA5E6VA) 5 HP 60 gal vertical tank (only found 3 HP listing below, but it says 5 HP on it) There is a plastic tube between where the pump attaches to the tank (air in) and the regulator. I recently discovered that it is merely attached to the regulator and does not interact with the regulator. There is a plastic fitting with a small brass rod (~ 0.05" dia by ~.5" long with an O-ring around the middle). When there is air pressure on this tube, the brass rod/O-ring comb. seals. Problem is that the fitting will not hold onto the plastic tubing anymore. So far, Ingersoll-Rand has been no help (other than an obscure exploded view which does not show the necessary part.) That is just a compression fitting. Sometimes just replacing the tubing is enough to get a bit on it. If not you should be able to get another fitting from an indstrial supplier.

How do I wire my 60 gal 3 hp IR commpressor? What size wire, what size breakers, and where on the motor do I attach my wires. Motor says 15 amp, 220 volt. Thanks, Clint

I would use a # 10 wire size with a 30 amp breaker. The motor should already wired to the pressure switch unless it has a mag starter. If no mag starter incoming power should go to pressure switch not motor. If unit has a mag starter incoming power should go to top of mag starter.

I had a 242-5D on a 120 horizontal driven by a 5 hp Dayton motor. I changed to a 2475N7.5 on a 80 gal vertical with a bad motor. I want to reuse the Dayton 5 hp motor. What can I expect?

Im not sure if iv;e got this straightYou had a 242running on 120 v driven by 5 hp dayton motor You have a new 80 gal tank with a bad 7.5 v motor and want to put the 5 v motor on it What was the size of the old tank if it was 60 or more you should be ok the 5 hp will have to work harder as long as you can make it fit you may want to consider droping down the blow out valve presssre spec 10 to 15 lbs depending on the size of the old tank
