Strange screen colours

My tv picture has gone mainly blue in the centre of the screen, with an outer greeny red ring

It happened suddenly. I turned it on after it had been turned off at the mains for a couple of hours and it was like this. I rotated the tv through 90 degrees to know effect. I turned in off at the tv power switch for a couple of hours today but left it on at the mains and some normal colour had returned to the centre of the screen and the blue is now the outer ring

Thanks for the help. Should I have the tv on or off whilst passing the magnet over it. I could only find a small magnet and tried it with tv on and the colour is almost normal as the magnet passes but returns to the blue although the blue is now at the sides of the screen as apposed to a circular ring.

Thanks again. Found a bigger magnet and tried it out. Much more dramatic results. Picture not perfect but much improved. I have a large stereo speaker about 18" from the tv - could this have caused the problem in the first place even though the picture messed up only yesterday and they have been in this configuration for over a year?

my tv screen has over a period of time started seeping blue green at one side and red at the other. the tv has two inbuild speakers on the side of the screen. can anyone help me sort it as its not that old but out of warranty now

TV has the same circle in the middle, with wild yellow, green and pink colours. Have turned it off at the mains a few times, to no avail. Tried magnet trick, but colours just spread out to the sides. This started out of the blue a week ago (when the weather turned really cold), tv is only 4 years old? Help!

Did this happen suddenly, or did it progressivly get worse over time?

Do the colors shift (slightly) if you turn the TV 90 degrees or move it to another location?

Your degaussing circuit is not fully 'demagnetizing' the picture tube.
You can manually degauss it using a strong magnet, but it's tricky.
With a tool made for demagnetizing you simply hold it close to the center of the picture tube and using a circular motion slowly spiral outward to the outer edge of the tube, pulling the magent further away from the tube at the same time. The same can be done using a strong magnet although the results may not be perfect. You can experiment with a magnet using wiping motions as you bring the magnet closer to and further away from the tube.

    Yes, and Yes :)

Have it on while degausing, and definately yes to the speaker causing,
or being part of the problem. The magnetic field from large speakers,
fluorescent light ballasts, neon sign transformers etc. can cause the
discoloration due to the magnetic interference. You may possibly be
able to talk a local tv shop into borrowing a degausser if they have
one. If you do get a degausser do not run it for more than the few
seconds it takes to do the job as it will heatup and burn out.

Believe it or not, even the earths magnetic field can alter the tubes
colors. Thats why I asked you to turn it 90 degrees, to get it out of
phase with the natural mag. field of the earth.

The colour has gone green and purple

I will start with a simple deduction that one primary colour has gone, the set has three Red, Green and Blue with this and our easily tricked eyesight we make other colours.
To me if this was a hulking glass tube type TV I would think one of its tube guns has stopped working this can be the chroma drive IC or more likely an out put which is mostly transistors mounted on the tube base gone bad or dry joints in this area. A tube can go but they mostly age and go off colour over time, I have also seen sets have power supply troubles which causes a low supply rail this results in some very strange events. A hoover started up in front of the screen can magnetise it as can a child with a strong magnet moving it around on the glass, a set will try to cure these last two each time its switched on (degauss) though the magnet one will be harder to cure! I am afraid it would need a service call to determine if its a joint or small part it may then be worth it, while a tube problem forget it. Also if this is a flatscreen then its possibly not worth it anyway, if its the screen+output IC set up, a screen is about 66-75% of a flatscreens build cost. On the other hand if its the main circuit board all an engineer can do is replace it with a new one (if around) because they are made in such a way with machines a man with a soldering iron stands No Chance. Hope this helps.....

Colours missing from tv

There are three color guns in a TV that make up the picture. Red, Green & Blue. It sounds like you have lost the green color gun.

You can get it rpeaired again, but your TV sounds like it is ready for TV heaven.

Television colour

your problem is simple it is called colour patch. it is basically due to change in direction or you must have shifted or tilted. it might be due to magnetic effect like spkr, telephone near by it.just remove from that location. put of the set for 15 minutes &put it on .problem will get clear. ask tv tech. to degauss it by dega.coil.it hardly 1 second job. regards
