My projector says "Clean Filter" every time I start it. There are 2 small ones that I've tried to clean and I'm pretty sure there is another filter near the bulb. I can't open it. It opens about a 1/2 inch and won't go any further. How can I get to it?

The red indicator light usually comes on when something needs attention. Most often it has to do with the lamp timer or the filter timer. The projector keeps track of how long it's been since you've changed the bulb or cleaned the filter(s). You can reset these timers in the menu. Be sure to clean the filter before you reset the timer
You can reset the "Filter Time" on your projector and it will clear this error out of the system.
1) Clean Filter 2) Turn the power on 3) Hit the Menu button 4) Once the menu appears choose "Options" 5) Choose "Filter Time" 7) While the time is displayed hold the "Reset" button on the remote for 3 seconds 8) The "Reset" menu will pop-up and choose reset.
There should be a small removable grill with a filter. Try cleaning the filter before you fix anything else. If it is a foam filter, you can clean it with soap and water. Make sure it is completely dry before reinstalling. If you have a paper filter, just blow it off.
You need to clean the projector. Take of the filter and clean it, open the topschell of your projector and clean it.
In time a projector collects a lot of dust inside, if you dosenrt regulary clean the filter the dust pass it and stucks inside the projecotor. Use compressed air for the job but be verry verry carefull so you dont damage anything vital. If you arent sure how to to it i sugest you take it to a electronic repairshop, its cheap and they will clean it properly.
Probably your projector filter is full of dust, and probably even the inside id full of dust. You need to clean the filter and you need to clean the inside. The fan starts coz the lemp inside cant get any air, as soon as you turn the projector on it gets overheated.
Go to a pro and let him/her clean your projector good, then it should work properly again. And make sure that you clean the filter at least 3-4 times per year.

With most projectors there is a foam air filter behind a grill that is the opening to the cooling channels. A fan ensures air flow to cool the lamp, etc. This filter prevents dust from gumming up the works (and depending on design) may prevent dust getting into the optics. As the filter gets dirty it gradually cuts off the air and at some point a protective circuit kicks in and turns off the lamp.
If the projector is on you will feel a stream of hot air coming out of the exit vent. Projectors vary in terms of amount of air flow, so its difficult to define what is normal for a specific model. However, you can simply hold a hand in front of the vent and see if there is air flow (It will be hot air so, careful). If there is a "good" stream of air things are fine, but if only a very light flow is felt the filter may be dirty.
If the filter has not been cleaned or replaced recently make sure the projector is turned off and cooled down then take off the inlet cover and remove the filter. Clean or replace per the instructions for the projector (and periodically as defined .. but taking into account the operating conditions). Once cleaned turn on the projector and feel the "normal" air current for future reference.
Heat is one of the major causes of projector failure, so make sure cooling vents (inlet and outlet) are not obstructed and filters are kept clean
