Dell All-in-one 924 error: "right cartridge is incorrect"

What does this mean?! It is a Dell brand color cartridge that worked okay until one day this message appeared on the LCD display: "right cartridge is incorrect". It is NOT incorrect. I had refilled the cartridge (only first or second time) and it worked fine for several days until this display came up. I assume it means that for some reason the sensor is not identifying the cartridge but I cannot clear the message by power cycling, removing the power supply for several seconds, cleaning the cartridge and carrier, wicking the cartridge, etc. It will not allow me to copy, print, or even perform any maintenace functions such as 'cartridge align, cleaning, test pg', etc. Can't even print in b&w with the black cartridge on the left. Help! I need to print stuff asap and local Office Depot doesn't sell Dell cartridges (of course!). Thank you!

Have a new 924 Photo printer and new cartridges. Error message :"Right cartridge is incorrect" appears. Never had this on previous 924 & used refills on that one.

I switched off the printer turned it gently upside down incase of dust, reseated the cartridges, put both cables back in & switched on.

Switched the printer off reseated cartridges and switched on again several times. Have now had to e-mail Dell.

I am having the same problem

  • AKAPam589 Mar 15, 2009

I am having the same problem. I bought a brand new color and black cartridges. The black ink went in with no problems. I inserted the color and I keep getting error code 1203. I even took the cartridge back and exchanged it and I get the same thing. I followed the instructions in the manual. I unplugged the printer, removed the cartrige cleaned the area and reinstalled the cartridge and it is still is not working. The printer is only a year old it is not used that often. I really hate to have to buy a new printer. I can't even talk to tech support at Dell without being charged and for what they would charge I could buy another printer.

Hi ,
if you are getting the error msg 12203 , pperform the following steps,
remove both the cartridges from the printer and unplug the power adapter ( black box) from the back panel of the printer, clean the cartridges using a damp cloth .

initially put only the black cartridge and then turn on the system , it will give you the error msg right cartridge missing, you can ignore it and try copying a document .

remove the black cartridge and put the color one in, and then try printing.

during the printing with any of the cartridge inside the printer if it gives out the error msg 1203 then that cartridge has to be replaced...

I had the same problem, all I did is try a million times removing the cartridge and putting it back in while unplugging the unit!! waste of time. I eventually cleaned inside the printer where the cartridge goes with an wet cloth for electronics, on the flat and underneath inside where the cartridge goes as best you can there is not much room but get as much under as you can. this is the area where the grid is that recognizes the cartridge. replace cartridge and it was working perfect.

What I have tried and had success with is to take both color and black cartridges out and power the 924 down and when you power it back up place both cartridges back in and you should be okay.

Cartridge problem.

Is it a dell cartridge or a different brand altogether?

If it is a dell brand it could be defective. There is a chip that determines if it is the correct brand and sometimes that breaks.

If you have already changed the cartridge to a brand new dell brand one and it is still happening, then I would suspect the sensor is bad. Probably cheaper to replace the entire printer than to send it in for warranty replacement if it still has warranty.

Error message reads: left cartridge incorrect.

hello there :

this error refers to the black ink cart not being detected .

possible the new cart has a some fault on it ., u can confirm it by checkin for any defetc , leak on the cart itself or test the printer with another black cart , (if u hav one ).

*if the old black cart is still detected by the printer though the ink is low ...then jus call dell tech support ., with the order # for ur purchase and the cart replaced .

each dell cart u buy has 2 yrs warranty on them .so use them

hav a gooday !

Right cartridge incorrect and printer will not

I have the same issue where the printer displays "Right cartridge Incorrect". However, it's had no problems up until about two weeks ago and I've had the right cartridge in place for about a year or so.

Printer: AIO 922 (All-In-One 922)
Ink: Remanufactured ink

Dell 924 printer shows error as "unsupported cartridge"

You can't have a Dell cartridge refilled. It's Dell's way of making big bucks selling overpriced cartidges. Their practise is almost illegal and eventually they will get sued.
Buy an HP or a Kodak printer. Both sell better printers and their cartidges can be refilled.

Solve this

I could be mistaken but I am pretty sure the right cartridge should be the black one. I would double check it. Also make sure you are using Dell brand cartridges.
