Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GL Router

Can't get my WRT54GL up and running

I do not have a CD-ROM drive on my laptop so I wasn't able to run the CD that came with the router. I was able to connect the router to my Comcast cable modem and I then connected the router to my laptop. I was able to navigate my browser to 192.168.1.1., the router's web page and log in. Logging in was no problem. After that, I set DHCP configuration and set wireless password. I pressed the icon that launches the "autro setup" feature on the router. The Cisco logo changed color from gold to flashing white. The logo on the router continued to flash white. The browser screen said auto setup had worked and I was now ready to connect wirelessly to the router. No such luck. I was not able to browse the Internet either wirelessly or when connected via ethernet cable to the router. What's going on? How do I fix this problem?

My first suggestion would be to reset the router and start again(usually a point on the back pane to push a toothpick in to reset),do not use a password this time and see if it will connect then

good luck

Use a computer that has a CD ROM drive and copy all the files off the CD to an USB memory stick, then insert this USB memory stick onto your laptop/computer and run the Kaspersky installation file to install Kaspersky program on your laptop/computer.

you got a cd with the laptop , put that into another computer and get a 4gb usb flash drive and plug it into the same pc you put the cd , run the cd and follow the instructions on the screen to transfer the files to your flash drive. when its finished copying the files, plug it into your netbook and follow the instructions on the screen of the other pc, that will tell you what to do

Install software without a cd rom drive

Connect an Ethernet cable between the network-port on your computer and one of the LAN ports on the router.

Now, you have a "direct" connection to the web-server that is "inside" the router. Open your web-browser, and connect to the web-server, and then you can run the "Wireless Networking Setup Wizard" to create your wireless network, i.e., pick an SSID and a password, and enable "WPA" (Wireless Protected Access) security.

Now, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable, and you can "find" the SSID that you have chosen.

I have a linksys router and need to know how to connect it to the computer. I do not have the cd any more that came with the router. Can I do this without it?

Download user manual:
http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/WRT54GL-EU_11_UG_A-WEB.pdf

To connect to PC, use a ethernet cable (crossed cable).
Default IP address of WRT54GL is 192.168.1.1
Set you PC a IP like 192.168.1.2.

http:\\192.168.1.1

Username leave blanck, pawword = admin

I have a Linksys WRT54GL wireless-G router connected to a cable modem and a PC using Ethernet cables. The wifi function is working fine with my two notebooks but I cannot get the computers to connect to...

Please
  1. Verify File and Print Sharing is installed for the wireless network card on each computer.
  2. Try pinging each computer.
  3. Try doing Start, Run, and in the browse line type \\and the ip address other computer. For example, if computer B has the ip address of 192.168.1.3 from computer A, do Start, Run and type in \\192.168.1.3 to see what that brings up.
Please post back if you have any questions.

Can a WRT54GL be used with XP

the whole internet is ran on "linux" or "unix" .. your computers will run fine with this router no matter what operating system. instead of using a cd to set it up goto the router configuration page in your web browser http://192.168.1.1/ the default login and pass is ussually no login and admin for the password. You can change that once in the setup. hope this helps out, good luck
