The unit switches off when cd player or ipod...

the unit has been working fine with our sat radio - however when you switch the selector to either the cd or the ipod adaptor (both of which are new) the unit shuts down after a few seconds.
It shuts right down to standby
I cannot work out the fix or what is wrong from the manual
any ideas
