Even after I replace the lamps and reset the lamp hours, I still have problem with the lamp light turn red. It would turn on for couple of minutes and display pictures and stuff like it is working fine for couple minutes, but then the lamp light turn red. I've tried couple different bulbs to make sure that it's not the bulb problem

Attach the power cord to the projector and plug it into an electrical outlet. Turn the projector on and allow it to initialize.
Press the "Menu" button on the top of the projector. Use the left and right arrow buttons to move the red box pointer to the "Settings" icon.
Use the up and down arrow buttons to move the red box pointer to the "Lamp Counter" icon. Press the "Select" button.
A pop-up window will appear displaying the number of hours accumulated on the lamp. Below where the hours are displayed is the option to reset the counter. Select the "Reset" option and then select "Yes" to confirm. This will reset the lamp hours counter to zero and reset the indicator light.

Press Point left or right button(s) to move the red frame pointer to the Setting Menu icon. 2. Press Point down button to move the red frame pointer to "Lamp counter reset" and then press SET button. The message " Lamp replace counter reset? " is displayed. Move the pointer to [Yes] and then press SET button. 3. Another confirmation dialog box appears and select [Yes] to reset the lamp replace counter. Note : Do not reset the Lamp Replace Counter until after the projection lamp is replaced. This projector uses a high-pressure lamp which must be handled carefully and properly. Improper handling may result in accidents, injury, or create a fire hazard. Lamp life may differ from lamp to lamp and according to the environment of use. There is no guarantee of the same lifetime for each lamp. Some lamps may fail or terminate their life in a shorter period of time than other similar lamps. If the projector indicates that the lamp should be replaced, i.e., if the LAMP REPLACE INDICATOR lights up, replace the lamp with a new one IMMEDIATELY after the projector has cooled down. ( Follow carefully the instructions in the LAMP REPLACEMENT section of this manual. ) Continuous use of the lamp with the LAMP REPLACE INDICATOR lighted may increase the risk of lamp explosion. A Lamp may explode as a result of vibration, shock or degradation as a result of hours of use as its lifetime draws to an end. Risk of explosion may differ according to the environment or conditions in which the projector and lamp are being used. IF A LAMP EXPLODES, THE FOLLOWING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN. If a lamp explodes, disconnect the projector's AC plug from the AC outlet immediately. Contact an authorized service station for a checkup of the unit and replacement of the lamp. Additionally, check carefully to ensure that there are no broken shards or pieces of glass around the projector or coming out from the cooling air circulation holes. Any broken shards found should be cleaned up carefully. No one should check the inside of the projector except those who are authorized trained technicians and who are familiar with projector service. Inappropriate attempts to service the unit by anyone, especially those who are not appropriately trained to do so, may result in an accident or injury caused by pieces of broken glass.
The NEC’s work on a reducing time basis, they count the hours that they have been operational and refer to this as the life of the bulb – 1600 hours. When the 1600 hours has been reached the projector shuts itself down into standby mode never to be restarted even after changing the bulb / filters. This is because the unit needs to be reset, which needs to be done as follows (not included in any of the bulb replacement instructions):-
Plug Projector in so it is in standby mode – Orange light lit, Red status light lit (not flashing)
Using the remote control, hold down the power off button for 30-45 seconds
This will reset the status button, removing the red light
Power up the projector and select Menu
Select Projector Options
Select Set-up – a number of tabs will appear called pages
Arrow across the pages (MT850 is Page 5) until an option called “RESET LAMP HOURS” is shown
Move onto this option and press enter on the projector itself, confirm that you want to reset the counter
Projector is now back to life
This works for all NEC projectors, the page number may be different though where the “RESET LAMP HOURS” option resides.
Does the status light stay on red? If it does then the lamp timer has exspired and will not let the projector turn back on until it is reset, at which time you should replace the lamp. To reset the timer you need the remote control, with the unit plugged in in standby mode hold down the power off button for 30 to 45 seconds until the status light goes off.
yes resetting the lamp hour might be the issue but not necessarily. It could also be a temperature issue as the fan (s) might have stopped or a temp sensor issue is faulty. check your manual for resetting lamp hours. Regards Kevin Andreassend www.iceav.co.nz firstname.lastname@example.org
