Accidents happen with phones and water but it doesn't always mean that all hope is lost. Below is a brief guide as to what you should do if your phone has been totally immersed in water.

1. Take the phone out of the water as quickly as possible.

2. Do not attempt to switch it on as this may cause further damage.

3. Remove the battery as quickly as you can, also remove the memory and sim cards.

4. If dropped in fresh water dry it off with a towel. If dropped in salt water rinse it thoroughly with fresh water. I know it sounds crazy getting it wet again but salt can cause a lot of internal damage such as corrosion. Again dry with a towel. You may also want to rinse it if you dropped it in a toilet.

5. Place the phone, battery and it's wet accessories in a plastic container (like a lunch box) and completely cover it with uncooked rice, use plenty of it. Again this sounds crazy but rice has desiccating properties that help draw the water out of the phone. Do not place a lid on the container.

6. Place the container somewhere very warm and dry for at least 3 days. An airing cupboard is often the ideal place.

7. Do not use a hair dryer directly on the phone to speed up the process. Too much heat can cause even more damage.

This isn't guaranteed to work but many people have successfully revived their phones and retrieved their data using this method.

Keep in mind that your phone is on borrowed time after you do this. Make it your first priority to retrieve any data that you would like to keep. It may only work for a few minutes, days, weeks, months or it may even last years.

You should monitor the phone carefully during charging. If it gets very hot the battery may be damaged and should be replaced.

After any exposure to water you no longer have a warranty as water damage is not covered. Any insurance policies on the phone may also be voided unless you are covered for accidental damage.

A more efficient alternative to rice is silica gel. You most likely won't have enough of the stuff to hand when the accident happens but it is good to use. Silica gel can be bought from electronic wholesalers like this example. Thank you to shuntfield for this information.

Good luck!

My nokia e7 fell into water and won't turn on

Wet Cell Phone
Immediately remove the phone from the water, turn off the cell phone, remove the battery and SIM card. To dry out the cell phone put it in a large plastic bag with silica gel drying crystals then put it in a warm sunny place for several days or in front of a warm fan heater for several hours. Reassemble the phone and hope it will work properly again, but if does not work then it is faulty and you need a new cell phone.

My nokia 2700 c phone fell into soap solution......and since then the light on the screen does not appear anymore...i like to know if the solution could be a whole change of the screen...or any clue.

First a word of advice: Never switch on your phone when its dropped in water. First dry it under fan and wait for at least 24 hours before switching it ON. Now, if only the IC of LCD is damaged, then only IC will be needed to replace. In other case, the screen will need to be replaced.

Hi,my nokia 5130 is not switching on.i went to nokia care and they said that this is due to water damage......they repaired it and told that no such problem will occur again....but again same problem...

since the problem was caused by water,
The water has damaged that part of the panel.....
you go to your Nokia care, purchase a new panel
And they'll change it,
and there will be no more such problems again...

My nokia 6210 nav fell into water and i dried it off. now the problem is that i cannot see the backlight even though the phone is working fine. the display is therefore dark, and i'm able to see anything...

Hi, sorry about the water problem with your phone, Since you said the phone is already coming on but the display is still dark, What makes the display still dark is because the water it fell into has damaged an IC inside the phone,The IC makes the phone display.

So when you replace the phone IC that got damaged, the phone will display again,.

It was caused by water.
Take care.

My nokia 3110c mobile got switched off suddenly and its not switching on. if i press the power button it's just blinking on the screen and switching off again. how do i solve this problem? please help...

Hi,

did the phone fall in water, on the flow or do you download from the net?.

If it fell on the flow that might cause it to be blinking the way those due to the force it use to land on the flow. Also if it fell in water, water can damage the phone automatically cause water is not friendly with chips in phones.

When downing from the net, some of those application are virus infected, you might have downloaded a virus with an application with what your trying to download and might affect your phone causing it to blink and go off.

So you need to flash the phone to restore the memory back so that it can come on normally again.

Take care.
