Question about SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro SDCZ62048A10 Hard Drive

SanDisk Cruzer Micro 2 crashes my system!

All three in a NEW pkg. of SanDisk Cruzer Micro 2MG's crash my XP system almost immediately before they can even get though the initializing process. I tried leaving them in while the my PC reboots and windows will not load.

Anyone have an IDEA how to fix this? I have a sneaking suspicion its a conflict.... but of what?

Thanks Ben for your quick response!
The system actually REBOOTS with in 15 seconds of plugging in the cruzer.
I have checked your suggestions. I see USB Host Controllers enabled in the BIOS. But did not see anything called USB legacy support. What do I do?

I purchased a Package of 3, scan Disk U3 cuzer micro 2GB drives for my
HP XPsp2 machine & after started using them the PC reboots every 10/12
minutes. I Restored the PC to a time before using the cruzers & its OK now. Is there a way to use the cruzers w/o this happening or should I return them?

Hi marykins,

When you say 'crash' does this mean the system reboots, freezes up entirely, or blue screens?

I've seen similar issues when the USB 2.0 host controller isn't enabled in the System (BIOS) setup. Many devices, such as USB mice and MP3 players and even flash drives, will show up and some will function, but if the USB is required to act as a host controller, devices such as external hard drives and (sometimes) flash drives will either not show up at all on the computer or will crash it.

I'd suggest first looking in the BIOS setup to make sure that both the USB host controller and USB legacy support are enabled.

Ben

How to make a sandisk Cruzer to operate with windows 98

This Cruzer driver package for the SanDisk Cruzer Micro is needed only for Windows 98. Windows Me, 2000 and XP already have the driver (if you are having trouble using the drive on these systems, then it is likely to be a conflict or problem in Windows - see the Windows Device Manager and Windows Help file for details).

After you download the Cruzer driver file, unzip the contents and click setup.exe to begin. Importantly, you should restart Windows 98 so the new Cruzer drivers can properly load into your system. Next, plug in the Cruzer drive and Windows will finish the installation. Restart your computer if needed.

SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro USB I/O device error

I would recommend plugging your Cruzer into another computer. It's possible that your computer has corrupted or incorrect drivers for the flash drive. This is one cause of the yellow alert in Device Manager. If you move the flash drive to another machine and it works, you can save your data and make a backup copy. If your Cruzer doesn't work in a different computer (I would try at least 2 other working computers), it's possible that the flash drive is faulty.

Is the account that your tying to access the drive with an Administrator account? If not, Log in as Administrator and try to access the new drive. If you ARE using Administrator privileges on the vista machine, the problem lies in the U3 smart driver. Try downloading and installing the drivers for the XP SP2 os on scan disks website, If vista rejects the install package off of the scan disk website, let me know and i'll extract the drivers and build an install for them for you.
