If your getting a reel error, then the chances are the reel assy is ok. Most likely the reel sensor is defective and must be replaced by a tech. A reel failure will result from the reel table not turning in a specified amount of time, so a motor not running, bad connections @ the main board or a defective tape can produce the same failure.

Telex Copyette 1-2-3: Master well wraps tape around the capstan.

Tape wrapping on a capstan shaft is commonly due to a sticky pinch roller or capstan shaft but is also because the take-up reel table does not provide enough torque or tension to gather up the tape. The Teac MTT160 cassette is a test tool we use to determine what the deck is doing torque wise. Telex probably has something similar. I worked with a guy who worked at Telex in the tape business- He did not talk about them much but he did say they had a lot of belts in them. Maybe you are just dealing with a belt that needs to be replaced. Lubrication also tends to be needed at every rotation point as well. That would include reel tables. I hope this gives you some help as Telex repairmen are getting to be like Hens teeth.

AIWA AD-F810 reel torque

If you have a service manual, go to exploded view 3 and look at 31.
This is the FR idler sub assembly. Check the rubber tyre or tire, see if it has hardened. This is driven by the reel motor and flip-flops between the table reel assemblies to drive fast forward, reverse, and play take up.
Also check the reel assemblies for oil that's gone to gunge.
I'm using brass valve oil with PTFE by Denis Wick, That's musical !

Tape is torn and I need to get it out of the cassette housing, splice the tape, then place in a new housing. Where can I get a repair kit??

Cat. No. 44-626 used to be available at Radio Shack but no more.

This might work..

http://www.gearslutz.com/board/geekslutz-forum/31114-cassette-repair-kit.html

"Splice the broken end to the take up reel of a newly bought cassette that you can open.
open the new cassette,
trash the interior
If you can't move the old reels to the new mechanism:
tape one side of the broken cassette's tape to the new take up reel
close the new cassette (do not open or break the old cassette if it's not already done)
insert a pencil into the gizmo on the take up reel on the new cassette,
reel up the old cassettes tape into the new cassette
re open the new cassette
splice the other end to the new cassette's gizmo
close the new cassette
record the contents to digital"

Eo3 safe mode

Problem with reel, could be your cassette causes the problem. In case your cassette stuck, eject the cassette by applying power on it and keep cassette door open for 5 sec or more until cassette ejected, then use other cassette. Otherwise have it check by the expert. Good Luck

Cassette tapes

try firmly banging the cassette onto a table top(with reels flat) a few times, then ff right through and rew a couple of times. this will layer the tape more evenly and hopefully allow the mechanism to play it. the takeup reel or autostop mechanism may be failing if the deck does not have enough torque to carry the tape and may require belts replaced or dried grease removed in the transport.

Panasonic AG-DV2000 Mini DV loading problem

the "dv sensor"is actually a mechanical lever built into the cassette housing that moves the reel tables to match the reel spacing on mini or full-size DV tapes. check to see if this assembly is free to move. if it binds up, the reel tables may not move as far as they need to, and can cause problems similar to the one you're seeing. to inspect the mechanism, you need to remove the cassette housing. if you don't have a service manual, get a tech to help -- it's a delicate procedure for the inexperienced.

Need a real trouble shooter

the take up reels on these are weak. I take them apart and stretch the spring. the left side of the cassette housing can become bent down fairly easy. you should be able to gently bent it back up. the reel table is on the right side looking down into the mechanism, may also need cleaning.
