My camera is a DSC-W55, when I change from 3M to 2M the imagens registered in the memory Stick Duo of 2 Gb I press the central round buttom and a after a seconds a blinkin message apears with a number like this "13.- -". and I turn off the camera. I can not take pictures when the memory stick is in it's place because the message is blinkin permanently, but if the memory is out I normal take pictures. I can see the pictures in the memory stick. What is the problem??. excuseme my inglish.

My camera comes on but is trying to access, then says Turn power off then on again, I can access my photos but cannot take any photos.

Any help appreciated, is it really just a matter of cleaning the lens??

  • Loeki Sep 08, 2008

BLEH, same thing happening here! The pictures were blurry, and the lens kept going in and out. Finally everything stopped and the black screen reads "access". I thought it was the battery and recharged, but nothing has changed. I miss my camera. =( After reading this, I tried cleaning the lens with a Q-Tip... nothing. I was recently at the beach with my camera. I suspect that sand is the culprit.

I am disappointed with my Sony Cyber-shot SDC-W50 Digital Camera.  It's less than 1 year old and the problems is as described by others.  This is a well know problem, which I was not aware of before purchasing - signs are focus issues followed by lens going in and out and progressing to a black screen reading turn on and off again.  From what I read it may be a stepper motor on the lens - what about a recall? Sony should fix this problem; my solution is not to buy another SONY camera.  They (Sony) could go the way of the US auto industry if they are not willing to fix a problem when its the result of defective equipment.  This failure is not random!   jmessic@purdue.edu

I have the same problem!! Ah!!! I can't even access my pics though- just says "access" and asks me to power off and on.

I have a DSC-W50 and my camera was working perfectly fine earlier this week. The battery died and after I out it back in after the battery was done recharging, I turn it on and it just says access. I can retrieve my stored picture but the lens will not open and when I try to hit the capture button it starts beeping and tells me to turn off and then back on! This is very frustrating because nothing unusual has happened since i used it last.

You can repair it your self. dont waste your money.
just remove the nuts from cover and remove 2 cables comming from the lens.then take the lens out and remove all the nuts attached to the lens.there are nuts in 3 colors red, silver and black.take out the motar and remove the lens cover carefully.
there are 2 springs in side.just fix them correctly and fix it again.
it has worked for me and save USD125. good luck if u need further help contact me on asheerwadh@gmail.com

Before sending it away you may want to make sure your lens is clean. If it is dirty it will act as if the lens is out of focus. If that doesn't work and you want to repair it yourself. There is a guy in South Carolina who has lots of parts for all the Sony Cameras. I bought my LCD from him for $39.00 plus shipping and it works perfect. I put it in myself and saved a ton. If you buy the part from him he sends you pictures of him taking the camera apart so that you can repeat the process when you install it. I think his email is gerald.ray@aa-ark.com

Hi Prakash

To get a little techincal - the focus stepper motor on the lens assy is not working correctly.

You will need to contact your nearest Sony dealer for directions to a service centre.

They will charge you for replacing the complete lens though, which should be about half of what you paid for the camera.

Good luck

Fuse location

Are you sure your display is not working?
Did you try to view pictures you already made? in the viewing mode you can't switch off the screen. While taking pictures you can. For display mode look at page 16 of the manual.
It would be strange if there was a fuse for the display. It would be very strange if you could replace a fuse.

Lost disc

Hi,
DSC-W35 / 55 is plug and play camera, hook it with computer through USB cable, Windows will recognize it automatically and will install required drivers.
You will see Mass Storage device icon in My Computer, click it to see pictures of camera. No need of software cd installation, Windows has inbuilt drivers for this camera.
Thanks.

When I turn on my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W35 the screen is dark with the word "Access" on it, moments later it tells me to power it off adn on again, any ideas?

Its lens error in your DSC-W35 camera.
Lens mechanism is either stuck or not retract completely and system control sense this error. Please replace lens assembly to get it fixed because lens mechanism is not repairable.
Thanks.
