I found 2 helpful manuals from brother that you may want to checkout. they explain exactly how to install the cartridge: http://www.ptouchdirect.com/ptouch/manual/PT1000.pdf http://www.ptouchdirect.com/ptouch/manual/PT85.pdf
Hi, it seem your label maker is set to the last(amount) of labels printed. Go to: Print Labels, click; Number of Labels; clear to set to (1) Label. That should stop the run off of labels. Thanks paul70f9
If the end is already messed up you may need a new cartridge, if you can remove the tape and feed the end under the guide on the cartridge and re-install it should work properly again.

Could have a corrupt driver. Disconnect
the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do
both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer
to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
There are two vertical fonts - small and normal. To put the labeler into vertical mode, hold down the [Code] key and tap the [J] key.
When it asks " 1-9 ", let go of the [Code] key.
Press the [8] key if you want small vertical type, OR the [9] key if you want normal size vertical type. Then you have to hit the [ <--' ] enter key.
Now you are stuck in Vertical mode ! :-O
To get back to normal, hold down the [Code] key and tap the [J] key, Let go of the [Code] key.
Then tap the [3] key and the enter [<--'] key. You are back to horizontal labelling.
:-) phew!
