Never EVER buy an Audi without having the dealer selling you the car guarantee that you can call up anytime with the VIN and proof of ownership and get the radio code.

The radio code function is a huge hassle and inconvenience that only seems to get in the way of legitimate owners. There is a huge theft and black market for these radios, so the code necessity seems unecessary, as the only ones who seem to be able to retreive the codes are professional thieves.

This was a huge mistake by Audi to handle the component security in such a manner. Perhaps they will make it in the future easier for owners to retreive the code. It seems simpler to get a radio code for the thieves than for the legitimate owners.

Had dead battery. Now radio says I need a code to unlock it.

What type of radio is this? If it is aftermarket, then typically Eclipse and Kenwood are the only units that utilize radio codes. If it is a factory radio (Honda, Acura, Audi, VW typically), then you will need the code which is 4 or 5 digits long and located in your owners manual or vehicle documentation on a small card the size of a credit card. If this is unavailable, then you will need to visit a local stereo shop, have your radio removed and re-installed, and your serial number written down. Take your radio's serial number to any dealer for your car manufacturer, and they will provide you with the unlock code. Hope this helps.

Audi concert sound system volume control faulty

problem is due to the microprocessor that runs the whole show, or more precisly a part of it that
remembers the volume level you had set when you removed the key, this memory is call EEPROM,
(electrically erasable programable read only ymemor), it can remember its data without power being applied,
this type of memory had a limited number of write cycles( number of times it can be re -written lets say between 20-50,000)
the early concert radios would only write to this memory when the radio was switched off, so that equates to 2-3 times a day in normal use, later radios have a software bug that writes(updates) this memory EVERY time you alter the volume level, you will quickly use up the 50,000 write cycles and the memory becomes defective, the symptoms are full volume that cannot be controlled, and it will be temperature sensitive often improving when it warms up.
Shame on you AUDI, this product was defective from manufacture but you dont honour any player out of warrenty, EEPROM has limited write cycles any engineer knows this, your software is defective.

the fix is to replace the microprocessor that has 1. new EEPROM onboard & 2. new software that doesnt weat it out!...the bad news is this fix is way more that the cost of a used radio off EBAY

I just bought a Porsche Boxer but I can't turn the radio on because I don't have the code!!!

You just need to recover the radio's serial number to decode the 4 digit radio key. The full process and decoder is available here: Porsche Boxster: Online Lost Radio Code Recovery Tool

If I understand your post right, you have the code but need the procedure on how to input/enter it into the radio. To my understanding, a 1995 Volkswagen Passat would have a non-BOSE unit with or without CD changer controls. It was a premium sound system with anti-theft coding.

Pls try:
1. Power the radio ON till "SAFE" is displayed;
2. Press the AM/FM and SCAN buttons simultaneously till display shows "1000". (In some versions, it is the seek and the two scan buttons);
3. Release the AM/FM and SCAN buttons;
4. Enter your security code using the first four station buttons on the radio;
5. The first button changes the first number of the four digit code;
6. The second button changes the second number and so on and so forth;
7. Once the proper code has been entered press the AM/FM and SCAN buttons at the same time and hold until the radio accepts the code;
8. You have two tries before the system will lock you out for an hour;
9. Should you happen to have a three digit code, pls make the first digit a zero;
10. The first digit can only be 1 or 0 (the 0 will not show up so for a zero, push the button until the 1 disappears).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
