Question about Computers & Internet

I have a speedstream 4100b modem and yesterday after the powere flicked on and off a couple of times I lost my DSl connection. The power light and eternet lights are still solid green, no other light are lite. I tried hitting the reset button, restarting the computer, powering down and unplugging the modem. Do you have any other suggestions?

    Ok, so I am slow. Type the ip default gateway (please clarify) into your browser (got that part) then in the sppedStream Management interface (don't understand) just click the reboot button (is that the reset button on the modem?) I have a feeling that this is an easy solution I just don't understand the directions.

    So ok let me get this straight. I sign on to my browser like I want to get on the internet, then I go and find the speedstream management interface in program menu. I will then click the reboot button and then I am fixed.

    I got exactly the same problem on the same modom. I think the modom is die because it didn't act as a DHCP server. My PC didn't have the correct IP (192.168.x.x), and I could not talk to the modem through the browser.

Just type the ip default gateway into your browser then in the speedStream Management interface just click the reboot button.

    after u done type the ip default gateway you are going to inter the software progam of your modem just find the reboot inside spedStream Management interface.

    i u want to get ur ip default gateway just right click the local area conection icon and click status then click support after u inter support u can see the 3 adress type just look the Default gateway and type to your browser

Does the DSL light come on at all when the modem is powered up?? If not, then it looks like the modem is bad.

When the modem is first powered on, all of the lights should come on and then go off after a few seconds. The power light should then begin to blink while the modem does a self test. Once that is done, the DSL light should come on and begin to flash red. If it senses a DSL connection, it will change to flash green until it has established a DSL connection. If it does not detect a DSL connection, it will continue to flash red. If the light does not flash at all or if the power light continues to flash after a minute or so, then the modem is most likely bad.

Will not connect with dsl... all connections are checked by hand and by software troubleshoot and are sound and correct, everything was fine yesterday but today will not get a green light on the dsl at...


No light on DSL usually means a problem BEFORE the modem

Check all your filters (or disconnect phones just to test)

Also check your cables from the modem as well as the modem power supply.

Anything outside that is usually an ISP issue.

They will tell you if they can see your modem and give you tips on re-connect.

Also power down the modem for a couple of minutes along with all your computers.
connect modem first and power it up. Wait till all the correct lights are on (LAN may not light). Then power up one computer at a time to check for conectivity.

Does it work? I have a Siemens SpeedStream 4100B and my light stoped working and I got AT&T to send me another one. The second one the light didn't work right from the beginning. But the DSL modem works great.

hi!
is the modem still new? if you have purchased it along with your dsl service from your ISP, then they should be the one to give you the warranty. however, if you bought it from best buy, walmart, etc. then you may not receive any warranty from your ISP, but you can let them replace it (especially if it's still a few months from the date of purchase) as for the phone no. well, these centers (for sales, billing, customer service, maintenance, etc.) work only during normal business hours, the ISP tech support is the one working 24/7.

and may I ask, why did the tech said it's defective? no power light? if the power light is on & the rest are solid lights or blinking (regardless if it's red or green...), the modem is still ok, it just doesn't have sync, but if power light is off, after plugging it from another power outlet on the wall, then that's the time when we can say it's defective.

check for physical setup between your modem and the wall jack

if u don know how exactly the physical setup is pls contact your isp for help for u to run through the steps

can be a deffective modem.. they Bell.ca had replaced mine only 5 times..

Blinking light on the DSL modem.


Unfortunately it sounds like the modem may need to be replaced. I had the same issue. Even after doing a complete shutdown, resetting all the cables, restarting the modem and then the computer, it still did not work. After you get the modem replaced, I would suggest you get a spare, possibably from e-bay, so if this happens again, you will not be without DSL Service.
