Microboards Print Factory Model PRF-1000-01

Printer has no lights and does not work, although the loading mechanism works OK when the lever at the end of the cartridge travel is pressed. The 32 volts and 18 volts are present at the multi plug on the printer PCB

I have been trying to fix this problem for over a week !! It has been turned on and off many times,it has two separate power supplies, both are giving out the correct voltages. One powers the loading mechanism, which works OK, the other powers the printing, readings OK at printed circuit board, but no lights and no response from power on/off button, Thanks, Joe

I clicked on the wrong button !!! for johnychel's response still have the problem, printer well out of warranty power ok to "print engine" pcb

  • Joelymm Mar 11, 2008

Printer has done an enormous amount of work for a Family History Society, if you could locate a PCB that would be great, Thanks, Joe

    Thanks Graeme I'll do that

Have you tried doing a full hardware reset... unplug the unit and let it sit for 30 mins, and then powerup and try again?

  • Graeme Ross
    Graeme Ross Mar 11, 2008

The actual printing operations in the unit are performed by HP internals, the load/unload of blank media and printed media are handled by a "robot" type hardware. If the unit does not reset with the method I prescribed, It is likely that the power supply to the printer electronics has a fault, or the print engine itself has developed a problem preventing it from firing up. I suggest checking to see if the unit is still under warranty before getting too far into it. Remember your warranty may be voided if there is evidence of the unit being opened up. Returning the unit to the supplier, or to a an authorised service agent may be the best approach. I can get these details for you if you wish, let me know here:)

    regards
    Graeme

Hey Joel, did you get the unit going? Just noticed you put a FixYa on Johnychel answer.... is it all good now, or what happened/

Joe, commented on the FixYa you awarded to the other expert, only
because he is now the one that gets paid for his attempt at providing
you a solution. Is that how you intended the outcome to be?

With you indulgence Johnychel, If the printer itself wont turn on from its own controls... does that not appear to be more of an issue than how windows is handling it....

    regards
    Graeme

ahh, Ok, thats cool, I am SURE that FixYa moderators can sort that out for me:) thatnks for getting back to me about it. Do you want me to try and track down a swap out PCB for you? Those machines are exxy to replace. How much work has it done?

    Hi Joe

go here and log a fault with the tech support for the PrintFactory. I started making inquiries for you, but a serial number is required, and you own local details(I am in Australia) may prompt them to get back to you quicker, or at least hook you up with a service agent nearest to you. I would initially give them the problem you face and ask them for a price on a replacement board for the unit. Sorry I could not get further for you. You have to go for it yourself from here.

    best regards
    Graeme

You've got an expensive unit (see below for Press Release), with a built-in CD/DVD reader/writer.
Given that your unit could be six years old, it's possible that the reader/writer has "died".

It seems to be a "stand-alone" unit -- not something that requires either Mac OSx or Windows XP/Vista/7 to operate.

I'm guessing that _ANY_ IDE (not 'SATA') HP-brand reader/writer, provided that it has a "LightScribe" capability, could be purchased, and could be inserted to replace the "dead" reader/writer. For about $100, it's worthwhile to try this "substitution" to revive your unit.

We need the catridge number of a microboard PF-2 disc printer with serial no PRF 035434 and the Model is PRF-2000-01.

It uses the color cartridge HP23 OR HP41 (You'll need to confirm this, those are different cartridges) and the black is HP45 (40ml) or HP15 (20ml).

Microboards PFII just keeps rolling discs and will not print

Di arleady did the first thing that we advise of customers to do - reload the PF-2 print drivers. Since that did not work you a most likely looking at needing the print engine replaced. This typically costs $600+ depending on how full of ink the inside of your printer is. Hoefully your printer is still under warranty with Microboards. If not, you can call Microboards at 952.556.1639 or check ou this repair company

Microboard pf-2 printer

Not really, there is also an RFID chip / reader. Your best bet is to keep buying the PRF38ml carts or buy a PF-1 printer that uses the standard HP 78 color ink cartridges.
