Dubbing problems: VCR to VCR

By Bouncy - usenet poster

I think the best way to tell you about my dubbing problems is to start
with the equipment I have.  My equipment is:

                           EQUIPMENT

TV               Toshiba model CT20C30

Recording
(editing) VCR  Panasonic VHS model PV-4657
This is a stereo model.  It has both front and back
                 connectors

Playiny
(source)  VCR  Quasar VHS model VHQ840
                 This is a mono model.

Camcorder       Panasonic model PV-A207.  VHS-C

Dubbing
 Cables         RCA type stero cables

With tapes in both VCR's, when I press "Play" on the playing VCR nothing
happens on the TV screen.

What type of connections are needed form using Two Vcrs to dupe a tape.Do you need a tv for instance or will it transfer the data from OUT the one you want to dupe, to the seconde vct you want to copy to.? If a t.v. is needed how would you use the cabling.? yellow-red-white on the tv vcr stateing OUT, and then the YRW as input on the second vcr?

I checked the line.  On the recording VCR the back connectors are line 1.
The front connectors are line 2.  I had it hooked-up to the front
connectors and set on line 1.  I changed the line and it worked.  Thanks
for your help.

Hi, the best way is to tell us how you have the units hooked up.  Try
composite video and line level audio out from the playing deck to the
respective inputs on the dubbing deck.  Often stereo decks will put a
single mono input onto both audio tracks w/o a 'y' connector.  If not,
get one.  Hook up the dubbing deck outputs (RF or composite and line)
to the TV.  Make sure the dubbing deck is set to the external inputs
instead of the tuner, usually with a switch or a setup menu item.  Set
the TV to monitor the dubbing deck by switching to the external input
or VCR RF output VHF channel - usually ch. 3 or 4.  Gary E
