Try using the compatability tool that is integrated with Windows 7. Do a right click on the Setup.exe file of Photosmart and select Troubleshoot Compatability. Then select, This program worked with an earlier version of Windows, and then select Windows XP SP2. Run the program and if it works choose the option that tells the system the program installed properly. Hope this helps
Go to HP's website (hp.com), click on Support & Drivers, do a search for "Photosmart C6280", click on "Photosmart C6280", download the drivers and software for Windows 7 (you'll need to know whether you've got the 32 or 64 bit version), then follow the install instructions.

this will usually happen if you're disconnecting the USB cable from the computer and putting it back on a different USB ports. try to connect it to where it was working before. this is also true for other USB devices such as scanners and webcams
