have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained
about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain
to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed
them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also
found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess
things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out
the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that

Hi If you are noticing that the dishes are not clean, then there are a few things to check for. Check the soap powder if it’s kept in a dry environment. Also try replacing the powder with something like a gel or liquid. Next thing to check for is the water pressure and fill valve. Check if the water is filling in and the spray arms are throwing the water with enough pressure. Try and listen to the sound if you hear a proper spraying action sound. If it seems as a low water pressure then check the fill valve. Now, check if dishwasher is draining the water or not. While the dishwasher is working check whether the dishwasher is draining and there is not much left out water after the cycle is complete. Try cleaning the spray arm with a soft brush. The water temperature plays a major role in cleaning of dishes. The temp should be between 125 and 150 F for dishwasher to clean the dishes. Daniel
If you suspect the dish washer, try discharging the drain in a bucket. After the drain cycle check the wash tub. If water is still left, you have to clean the drain filter attached to the bottom. Refer user guide.
The final drain end of the dish washer where you discharge, the fixing junction has to be cleaned, incase it is clogged.

Dishwasher SprayArms not Spinning
Is water also standing in the bottom like it isn't getting pumped out? If so, probably the drain system is plugged and everything below the lower spray arm needs to disassembled to the deck--noting the position of each piece as they are removed. Look for food plugging holes in the deck and any obviously damaged parts. Clean the large screen in vinegar and hot water--let soak for a while to remove water and food deposits. Check the drain hose from end to end looking for kinks or other restrictions. Make sure the pump mechanism at the bottom turns freely. Check both spray arms for plugged spray holes or split seams. Reassemble in reverse order. Run a cycle without dishes to clean further--make sure the water drains out at the end. Listen for proper water movement while running. Open the door to inspect progress several times.
I had the same problem. Indicator flashing. F7 displayed. Nothing seems to work. The following worked for me: Remove the filter on the floor of the machine, including the metal grill. Press & hold the start button (like you do when you want to cancel a programme). this will drain the water out of your clogged up drain outlet. Clean your filter and grill and replace it.
My guess is that the sensor in the drain (a little glass tube) measures whether the water going out is clean enough to decide that your dishes are now rinsed correctly. If your filter's clogged, the water going down the drain is still dirty. After a while it gets sick of trying and stops the machine. F7 in whirlpoolese may mean "Clean my filter now or you can wash your own bloody dishes"
My dishwasher isnt working anymore after i cleaned the filters?
i took out and cleaned the filters in it and now it doesnt seem to be working properly. it goes thru the cycle but its not cleaning. the dishwashing tablet falls to the bottom and isnt even dissolved completetly after the cycle has finished. is it possible that its blocked somewhere? It is a Whirlpool ADP 5540 thanks for your help ****
the walls are still dirty after the cycle but there is steam in there as if its done its normal cycle
You have a drain problem, Your house drain may be restricted the dish washer pumps out with more pressure then the water just falling down your sink.I would snake it or have a plumber clean out that drain...let me know if this helps
