We recently purchased an apartment with a Smeg oven SA 392 EB installed (probably in the 90s). For some strange reason the oven has stopped heating. The fan works fine as do the elements. The yellow/orange light comes on as if it is heating when the cooking method is set to 'off' but then switches off again when I select a fan/grill setting. Any ideas? The symbols are completely non-sensical. Maybe I've accidentally selected a timer setting. But we have been playing around with lots of different settings with no result.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Smeg oven SA 392 EB - technical difficulties
First of all the yellow/orange light glowing is a known fault. it needs a slight wiring modification to fix it, however it dose not affect the operation of the oven nor is it dangerous.
now to the heating problem, there is a round element at the rear witch surrounds the fan. is this element getting hot? if not then it most likely needs replacing. it could be the thermostat but more likely the element.

Hello Check these links. You can download the user manual to your Oven from here for free. It is PDF format, and your system must have Adobe reader installed to display it properly. If you feel any difficulty in downloading the same, inform me by fixya comment box at your problem window. I've the donloaded manual to your Oven, and I'll send a copy of it to you by return mail. I can't send it to you by this site, as it does not allow me to upload any PDF files by it, and this file comes over a capacity of 4MB. OK.
This tutorial will show you how to check your Smeg element and how to replace your Smeg cooker element.
Here are the 3 main faults to look for in your oven or cooker that is not heating
Your oven will not work until the clock/timer has been re-set after replacing an oven element or tripping the electrical supply. Consult your Smeg manual.
If your Oven is not getting hot or heating up it could be a faulty element, if the fan in the oven is running and the thermostat light is on, this will lead us to believe that the element has gone faulty. With grills the thermostat light should come on there should be heat, if not then this could be the grill element or the thermostat.
When you turn the oven on, the household electrical supply trips on the Rcd (this is the earth trip in the fuse board sometimes called the breaker tripping) your fan oven element has gone to earth and needs replacing.
