Ghosting

Normally ghosting is caused by a bad fuser.
Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1)
Print something. As the paper gets 1/2 way into the printer, open the cover..
Look at the paper. If there is no ghosting, the fuser is bad. If there is ghosting, could be a cartridge drum.
Follow these steps print a Print quality troubleshooting page to identify which print cartridge is causing the issue.
  1. Open Toolbox .
  2. Click the Help folder, and then click the Troubleshooting page.
  3. Click Print , to print the page. The page prints five bands of color, which are divided into four overlapping sections. By examining each section, you can isolate the problem to a particular print cartridge. Figure 4: Print quality troubleshooting page bandsc01417618.gif 1 - Yellow 2 - Cyan 3 - Black 4 - Magenta

Double printing on page

This is caused either by the fuser or the tonercartridge.

The most common cause is the tonercartridge.
You can test this by forcing a paperjam to stop the paper just after the toner but before the fuser.

To force a paper jam print you can print a page from the manual feed tray and as the last third of the page enters the printer opening the door causes it to halt.

If the double printing occurs before the toner is bonded to the paper by the fuser you should replace the tonercartridge..

How do i stop my printer from leaving ink streaks down the right side of my pages?

I was going to suggest removing the fuser and looking at the rollers, but on this printer it's a major operation.
Instead let's run the half test. Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1). Print to the printer. When the sheet of paper gets pulled about 3/4 of the way in, open the top cover. Pull out the toner cartridge. Look down at the paper. Does it have a streak down the right side? If yes, replace the toner, if no, have the fuser replaced.

My hp1012 is printing dark with shading on the pages and shadow or echos. Can something be replaced or fixed?

with this issue, you pretty much have to run a half way test unless you have the convieniance of another toner to try. basically, it's either going to br your toner or your fuser and a halfway test will determine this if you don't have another toner to try.

The Half-way Test

You will need to print a page and open the toner lid when you think the paper is underneath the toner cartridge. This will stop the printing so you can pull the toner cartridge out and look at the partially printed paper. It may take a few tries to time this test correctly so the paper stops under the toner but not completely into the fuser.
1. Print a test page from Tray 1, the "fold-down" Multi-Purpose tray on your printer.
2. Just as the test page completely disappears into the printer, open the toner lid door. The print job will stop, sensing an error.

3. Pull the toner cartridge out, and you will find the test page sitting directly underneath the toner.
4. Carefully remove the page by gently pulling the page upwards & free from the toner cavity. Careful! The toner has not yet been fused to the paper, so the print can be somewhat messy on your hands and may smudge easily.

Examine the printout.
1. If you do not see the print defect on your test page, that means the defect is being added later in the print process by the fuser. Fusers are the main component in a maintenance kit; click here to view our selection of maintenance kits for various LaserJet printers.
2. If the print defect is visible on this printout, that means the print defect is occurring before the fuser. Try replacing the toner cartridge (click here to view our selection of toner cartridges).
If you determine the print defect is occurring before the fuser, and swapping toners doesn’t fix the problem, there could be several things causing the problem. In the order of most likely to least likely: you could have two defective toner cartridges, the transfer roller might be faulty, the laser scanner could be dirty or defective, or the high voltage power supply could be bad. You might want to email or call since these scenarios are not as common.

If you are getting a "shadow" behind the text or image it is probably your fuser that is causing the problem. Anytime you see a double image or the print is smearing the fuser (aka fixing assembly) is to blame. You can troubleshoot the problem to see for sure before calling out a technician. Send a one page test print job to the printer. Open the rear "output" tray so that the print job exits the rear of the printer. Watch the paper as it is pulled into the machine. When you see the leading edge of the print exiting the printer open up the front door of the printer. This will of course cause the machine to jam up but its worth it. Carefully remove the toner cartridge. Look at the print on the page still inside the machine. Do you see the same grey image? If not then the problem is the fuser. If you do see the grey image then the problem is the toner cartridge. Stopping the print job in the middle of the printer like that allows you to see what the image looks like before it goes into the fuser. If the fuser is the problem call a tech. It is about a $100 - 150 repair for the fuser depending on the labor rates where you live.

Lexmark E 342 n paper jam with error code 201

According to the LexMark support page, this is most often related to not getting the print cartridge assembly properly positioned. (Left and right sides not fully in place). Another possible source is paper in the output tray when using the double sided printing feature. (This leads to grabbing an extra sheet when it tries to retrieve the paper to print the second side. Paper stock thickness will change the number of pages printed before this happens.).

I hope this helps.

Paper jam

There is a sensor in the back that lets the printer know the paper has exited the fuser. It is probably broken off if paper is getting stuck back there.

Also check for paper remnants that are jammed. This may require removal of the fuser.

I have never seen that happen on one of these.

check to be sure that they go backward at the end of printing, they may reverse on startup

I think maybe you are missing the door that sits inside the rear door (called outer shute assy). When you open rear door there should be another before fuser.

How old is this machine, because there is a fuser and outer shute and cover mod, that goes in to early product run of this model. Machines affected are from the Initial production up to and including Serial No.'s K6J702822 (last 9 digits of S/N), this mod is to help with paper curling at exit causing jams.

Check printing on ML 1750

Your check paper might be too thick for the printer. It has been designed to handle paper 20-40lbs. If common paper prints fine, it means that the printer is not able to bring the check paper to the exit tray, where the fuser is located. The fuser is the part that heats and makes the toner print permanent. Try printing your checks through the manual tray.
