The W5620 is (identical to) the WC417. The BIOS detects the amount of memory and the presence of a fan in case of >4G. An alternative is a Corsair Dominator memory fan CMXAF1. It sells for about $30, a small modification is necessary. You need to buy a memory fan, see
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ws670/en/ug_en/before.htm#wp1131665
and
http://forum.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=pw_other&message.id=4036

the part number is W5620, but good look finding it on Dell's website. I had better luck calling them, but the part is on back order and I couldn't actually place an order until they get confirmation from the warehouse. I'm told I have to wait at least 24 hrs.

The part number is W5620

You can buy one by contacting Dell Sales Support at 1-800-624-9897 (Home/Office) or by ordering online. Make sure to have your service tag number handy. For Small Business, it is 1-877-773-3355, and for Medium & Large Business, it is 1-877-671-3355.

Good luck finding the part online at Dell's site, I couldn't. I called the parts order number and was told the item is backordered and they needed confirmation from the warehouse before placing an order. Said confirmation is said to take ~24 hours.

That means your PC prefers NOT to burn. Many of the later model motherboards have chipsets on them that automatically respond when temperatures get to levels that are higher than normal. Or the case may be that the prompt comes to you even before the rise in temperature.

Temperature configuration is usually available in your BIOS. Just hit Del or F2 on the first screen of boot up. But before you get to changing those settings, read your manuals first. Go to the official website of your device's manufacturer for details and documentation because you may be at risk of irreperable hardware damage.

Can an old HP Workstation xw8000 Computer that is currently using 512 RAM (PC2100 registered 184 PIN ECC DDR SDRAM DIMMs) be upgrade using 4GB Kit (2 X 2GB) PC2100 Registered 266MHz 184 pin DDR SDRA

According to a couple of people I have conferred with, that RAM should work.
Take a stick of the old ram out and make sure the the cut out, in the new RAM, is in the exact place as the old sticks. It cannot be off by a micron, or it will not fit.

The issue seems to be that your PC can not handle the supported memory. After review of your system specs on dell's website, I see that you're computer would require DDR2 Memory. This seems to be what is causing the beeping. Please check to ensure you are using the correct memory stick. I hope this has helped

Hi,

The memory specification for your workstation is here:
http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Precision%20Workstation%20T3400

You can remove the 1GB modules and replace with 2*2GB modules to give 4GB and you are correct in that you will need to use a 64-bit operating system to fully utilise 4GB or more.

Hope this helps,

From what I can tell the Dell Precision Workstation 670 does support over 4GB of RAM. However when you have over 4GB of RAM installed in the system you have to have the Memory Cooling Shroud connected to keep the memory cool. Also this is only shipped out when the system is ordered with over 4GB of RAM originally. If you do not have this part you can order it from Dell buy calling 877-671-3355.

How can i fix my 4 gb DDR 2 ECC RAM in dell 470 work station

You can't fix RAM. You didn't say what the problem is.
If the RAM is bad, you replace it.
If your computer doesn't see the total of 4GB, it's the BIOS of the motherboard.
If Windows doesn't see the full 4GB, then you are not running the 64-bit version.
