I have this ancient Yamaha rx-530 2 channel receiver that has been working great, but that I might have fried. I was trying to hook it up to a Radio Shack Accurian Powerline Digital Audio Sender, and I at first hooked it up wrong. The Accurian works, but the receiver sounds like it is turning on (I hear clicks when push the power button), but it won't light up, nor can I get anything to work with it. I know it is not worth the money to have it looked at, but should I just trtash it?
If so, any suggestions of what kind of receiver is a good buy.
Thanks for your help!
Same problem, my 1989, same model, same manufacturer. No function light. All my components used to run on that. I had it, w/o using it for two years. Now, I am aware of it's having power and the click on turning it on, but no light. How frustrating is that?

Re: Yamaha rx 530 receiver
I have the same exact problem, though I do have the original bulb. I THINK the part number is: VE628900. I need someone to replace it for me though! Not too sure, but I think you can get a similiar one (not in brightness, but in dimentions and voltage) at Radio Shack. I think it is 6 volt, but have NO clue if it is AC or DC.

Feb 13, 2015 - no sound on yamaha rx-530 stereo fm receiver nothing, just no soundcomming out of speakers ... Does your TV have any audio outputs such as RCA perhaps? .... Suddenly no sound is coming from my speakers except for my subwoofer. On certain settings some of the speakers work but not all of them.
I've tried using the balance for left and right speakers, and when the receiver is acting up with the right speaker having a low volume, I tried moving the balance all the way over to the right speaker. The right speaker volume will not increase in volume but the left speaker will decrease in volume.
Just to clarify, the center and the rear speakers are balanced. The issue only happens sometimes when I first power on the receiver I will have no center channel. If I leave everything alone for a few mins, the center channel will come on.
So it seems to me that something one the receiver is going. The question is, can anyone suggest a physical repair for the receiver for these symptoms?
What role do you want each of these pieces to play?
The Front channel amps of the RX-V990 could be slaved to the DDP1 (or any other volume-controlled Line level source) by simply removing the jumpers in the RX's Front Pre Out/Main In and driving the Main In.
Hi Zanthena - my Yamaha rx v 2200 is doing exactly the same thing - did you manage to track the problem down? I have had my unit in for repair and the fault occurred again 6 hours after I re-installed it.
