Sansa c200 refresh database freeze The player will not start without being attached to the PC/USB cable in boot mode (hold/ on red press rec) attach to PC. I have attempted the fix sansa.fmt. unsuccessfully.

    I formatted the unit
Seems there is a bad header in one of the Mp3 files.
When I attempted to reload the same files, it seized at the same point. I tried reloading them a few files at a time. Viola! I found the corrupt Mp3. I am downloading the identical file to see if it is consistently a problem

    Here was the solution:

    Formating:
    - Make sure the player is off.
    - Move the Hold switch to ON (move to the right towards the Record button).
    - Hold the Play/Pause (>||) button and then press the Power/Menu button.
    - Keep holding the Play/Pause button till the "About to format device" comes up, then realease the Play/Pause button and press the Foward/Next (>>|) button to format this device. Once that's done, the system restart automatically.
    - Turn off the Hold switch, then power on the player.

    haans :)

Hello! I have a chance e200 which is blocked,

HERE YOU HAVE A SOLUTION

Recovery Mode

I was having a problem with my player and after a little back and forth they showed me a back door to recover the system:

If your Player wants you to start in recovery mode

1. Activate the "HOLD" function 2. Press "Rec" and hold, while ath the same time pressing "ON/OFF" button and hold.

After some seconds of pressing there appears a screen reading: Recovery mode: Connect cable Now connect to your PC. A folder 16mbFORMAT will appear under 'My Computer'. Call SanDisk technical support for the most up to date firmware files. 1-866-SanDisk

Note: The firmware is available online via links in their forum at http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/

There are currently 2 version of the e200s, make sure you get the proper firmware for your version.

Copy the .MI4 file from the zip to the 16mbFORMAT folder.

The one thing I don't see mentioned in thread is to format the device completely, create a new directory called "sansa.fmt" in the 16mbFORMAT folder. Then, unplug the usb cable from your computer. Powering down will not reformat.

Sana e280 frozen screen reads Refresh Database

put the player in recovery mode by placing the hold slide button at the top of the player so that the red showes, held down the record button while turning on the player. upon connecting the USB cable the unit will go into the recover mode. Go to my computer and look for the drive which states "16MB Format" and copy the firmware files into it. Disconecting the cable after the files are copied will cause the player to reload the firmware. The player will restart and then shut off because of the Hold button position. Slide the Hold button back into normal mode and push the menu button to restart. The unit will power up and display the language settings. I went to the settings menu and changed the player USB setting to USC. I then placed the player in recovery mode again and went to the MY Computer again and set window to show hidden files. This allowes windows to see the database drive. I then ran chkdsk on the database drive which found a lot of crossed linked files. This then allowed me to delete all the files in the database. Upon comming out of the recovery mode the unit restarted normaly.
You can get the firmware at this site. http://mp3support.sandisk.com/firmware/e200/e200v101.02.18a.zip

Entering recovery mode is not possible

Disengage the lock switch, then try this: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware.
Wizard.

Sansa e270 refresh database

I have had a similar issue with my Sansa E270 player in the last couple of years. Sometimes when loading files, the transfer would lock up. When the power was cycled on the unit, it would freeze on the "Refreshing Database" screen. To fix this involved the following steps...Of course it involves formatting the folders containing the stored music.
1) Ensure the USB cable is connected between the computer and the player.
2) Turn the player off by pressing and holding the power button for at least 10 seconds.
3) Slide the top slider switch to the "Hold" position.
4) Press and hold in the record switch (on the side), while pressing and releasing the power switch to turn it back on
5) The display should say...."USB mode V2.0 in MSD"...or something like that.
6) The computer will detect the device as a 16Mbyte Sansa drive. Using Windows Explorer (right-click start button/explore), open the drive.
7) The Sansa drive should contain a .TXT file. In the same folder as the TXT file, create another folder named - sansa.fmt
8) Once the sansa.fmt folder has been created, unplug the USB cable and the player should automatically format.
9) Once formatted, communication is again possible.
