This is because I suspect you do not have the correct "Codecs" installed. Download and install the CODEC pack below, install and try that it just might help.

You mentioned opening a program and watching a movie and it hangs, remove one stick of ram and see if there is a difference, if no! remove second stick and put back the first and test again, if this solves the problem the memory needs to be replaced.
How old is the system? DO CDs work when you try them? Put a disk in... remembering the position it was in.. Then try to play the disk... Eject if it does not play and look to see if it has moved to a different position... If not, there is a motor problem or the laser is not sensing the disk being there.
Have you ever opened up the main box of the system? Has anyone else been inside it?
If yes, then maybe it is time to do it again to observe if there is movement of the laser pickup..
First thing you do to power your laptop on again try removing the battery and the charger complitly leave it for 10 sec without power then press the on off switch for 2 or 3 times without puting the power or batery later try not to put the battery and put only the power adapter and start your laptop dose it starts if yes good shut it down and put the batery in and start the laptop if its starting and leave it running for cuppul of hours and then again remove the power adapter and let it run the system with batery power if it stays on and fine you are ok and fine there was just a power dump but if it fails in any case like fails to boot with power adapter and so you have adapter issue need to be checked if dosent work with batery it self its a batery issue and needs replacement .
regarding the keyboard issue you can open the kay board and clean it with contact spray if posible.
Formating may solve this. *You will lost contacts and files on phone, if you do this*
turn
off the phone, press 3,*,call(green one) at a time and power on holding
the keys ( it means finally 4 keys at a time, dnt laugh , it is way,
phone can he hard formatted)
Try untill it askes for the time
and country. Pressing 4 keys at a time is a bit tricky so, it is easy
to miss one/two attempts, atleast i do.
open the system, see if it is turning, make sure it is relatively clean, reseat the cable that goes from the fan to the motherboard.
If the fan runs fast and clean, but the error is still there, there may be an issue with the motherboard.
Sometimes it helps to unplug the power, hold the power button 15 seconds, release, plug back in. Otherwise, unplug the system, and remove the batery from the motherboard for a minute, you may have to reset some BIOS setting after this.
are you trying to use the surround sound for movies or music ? , ive got the dvd version of this system (sc-dv290) and ive noticed the surround sound tends not to perform well with music , but sounds great with movies. i think its because the movies have dolby digital and music does not. The dolby pro logic in my opinion doesnt really make that much of a difference in sound unless the sound is cranked up past 44db on the amplifier. the only cables you need are the ones that are attached to the surround sound speakers and they cannot be removed so it cant be the wiring . I reckon you have a 1 - faulty system 2 - listening to music 3 - maybe not pressing the pro logic button on the sound processor. Hope this helps
Dear Mrs Crawley,
Can you look in the manual and see a customer service number?
They might be able to tell you how to reset the parental control code.
