I don't know if anyone can help but my fan tends to run all of the time. It must be overheating because it shuts down several times a day. I am wondering if it is hard to replace the fan and where the best place is to buy one. Thanks for any help in advance!
I don't think a Mercedes coolant problem will fix your laptop. The fan on most laptops runs all of the time. Many are sensor driven and the fan speed will increase with processor activity. If your fan seems to be running okay, and is not making too much noise, you may just need to take the unit apart and clean out the dust bunnies. They will greatly affect the heating properties. If you need a service manual for disassembly, it is available at mpcdrivers.com
Start at the coolant level of your car. If there is too little coolant, then fill it, if you notice you always have to fill it, then look for a leak. if no leaks check your cool/hot gauge if you engine is cool but reads hot or above normal at idle then, replace your thermas stat. Also check the pressure of your radiator cap, it might not hold it's pressure any more. If it dosnt, buy a new one (Cap). None of the above re-check then check into your heater core, look carefully for leaks or steam coming out of your radiator and oil/transmission cooler. your radiator. If every thing is normal, then look into the fan swich and determin if it is faulty. If it runs when it is shut offf for ten seconds and then quits after that, then it is suposed to do that. (If it dosnt, then your engine might not be equipt with that feature.)
Hope this helps. Good Luck.
P.S. I may be missing a few points so buy your self a manuel and save a bunch of money.
Mundo Corp is where you can find the fan.
Also The bottom opens up and you should be able to replace the heatsink and fan combo.
