Fan continues to run

I don't know if anyone can help but my fan tends to run all of the time. It must be overheating because it shuts down several times a day. I am wondering if it is hard to replace the fan and where the best place is to buy one. Thanks for any help in advance!

I don't think a Mercedes coolant problem will fix your laptop. The fan on most laptops runs all of the time. Many are sensor driven and the fan speed will increase with processor activity. If your fan seems to be running okay, and is not making too much noise, you may just need to take the unit apart and clean out the dust bunnies. They will greatly affect the heating properties. If you need a service manual for disassembly, it is available at

Start at the coolant level of your car. If there is too little coolant, then fill it, if you notice you always have to fill it, then look for a leak. if no leaks check your cool/hot gauge if you engine is cool but reads hot or above normal at idle then, replace your thermas stat. Also check the pressure of your radiator cap, it might not hold it's pressure any more. If it dosnt, buy a new one (Cap). None of the above re-check then check into your heater core, look carefully for leaks or steam coming out of your radiator and oil/transmission cooler. your radiator. If every thing is normal, then look into the fan swich and determin if it is faulty. If it runs when it is shut offf for ten seconds and then quits after that, then it is suposed to do that. (If it dosnt, then your engine might not be equipt with that feature.)
Hope this helps. Good Luck.

P.S. I may be missing a few points so buy your self a manuel and save a bunch of money.

Mundo Corp is where you can find the fan.

Also The bottom opens up and you should be able to replace the heatsink and fan combo.

My nextbook keeps shutting off & its fully charged. what can i do?

I would check to see if it's overheating. If the fan inside has stopped working it will run till it overheats then shut itself off. First try blowing it out with canned air, you can also try to vacuum the dust out from the side vents. If that doesn't work prop it up on some books with a table fan pointing into the cooling vents. See if it will stay on long enough for you to save your files. If you live somewhere cold doing this outside may give you more time. If you have central air put it over the cool air vent. A netbook is such low cost to begin with even the cost of labor to replace the fan would exceed the value of the computer. If you're a handy person you can try to find a computer like yours with a broken screen or hinge and get a new fan from that. before you go tearing it apart take a good listen and make sure you can't hear the fan running. and make sure your netbook isn't passively cooled (no fan). In either case your heatsink with or without the fan may have separated from the CPU.

Laptop shuts down

From the little amount of information you have given, it could be several things.

One common issue is overheating.
-Blocked fan intake/exhaust holes
-Dust blanket between the cpu heatsink and exhaust fan.

Get the air duster and blow out all around any holes, This is a temporary fix to get you going for a few weeks or more, if overheating is your problem.

Laptop continues to crash and freeze all the time even if the laptop moves or not

The laptop may be overheating.
When the CPU overheats then it will shutdown (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down.If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes this problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

My IBM lap top seems to be overheating, it has started to shut down, I just guessed it was from over heating, it has done it quite a few times. It is on a docking station, so I wonder if it isn't getting...

The problem with the laptop is that the Main board fan needs to be clean. It could have accumulated a lot of dust. Try cleaning the fan and the laptop would be faster than before and seize shutting down.

Before that I would advise you to update the BIOS which will be available in the manufacturer's website. This could also resolve the issue.
Fan cleaning must be done in such a way that the laptop must be disassembled and clean the dust in the fan.
Assemble the parts once again and the laptop would be as good as new.

If you fear disassembling the laptop you can contact the manufacturer tech support to have the fan cleaned.

That would be normal, as the variable speed fan comes on only when the computer is under load.

What is not normal is that the fan is not coming on when the computer overheats.Or that the fan is not cooling enough when computer is overheating.

Monitor computer temperature using a software, check if Fan is coming up when temperature gets critical.

If fan comes up but does not cool enough, then replace the fan, it is not efficient anymore because of a bad bearing or dust. ~Also ensure that fan is well mounted, if fan has poor contact with CPU surface , cooling will be poor.

If fan does not come up, and critical temp is not detected, then the sensor on motherboard is bad, this is very uncommon. When this happens the problem is usually related to system or power settiings , rather than overheating.

If fan does not come up and temp is critical, then fan is faulty, replace it.

There are also more than one fan on many laptops, check that one of the fans (CPU fan, video fan) is not completely ded, and therefore cause for the problem.

By using the software below you can also find out if the problem is really overheating. If temperature results within normal range, then usually it is not overheating. In that case test systtem and check power saving settings.

Here is the software to control your fan and temp. sensor state:

Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

Download SpeedFan 4.38
