The brushes are turning by an air driven turbine. The turbine has a pivot bushing made of steel inside of it that gets rusty because of the water that is running through it. The turbine gear will have to be replaced. You can access the turbine gear by removing the hood. You can find a genuine hoover replacement part by following the link below. Just find the model number of your Steamvac.

Why does my brush roller stop and heat up belts?

Hi! If you have replaced the belt with a new one and your brush-roll is still not spinning, your brush-roll may need to be replaced. Remove the brushroll and clear it of hair and debris. Spin the end caps with your hand. They should spin easily with no tension. Inspect the area on the brushroll where the belt rests on for damages. To order a replacement brushroll click on this link. Search Results It could also be that the incorrect belt is being used with the vacuum. Make sure you are using genuine Hoover parts when replacing the belt. My Hoover makes louder noise when the brushroll is on. I just cleaned but no result.

What kind of Hoover is this? There are a few things that will cause excessive noise and vibration such as a worn belt, the wrong belt, damaged end caps, damaged brush roll housing and worn bearings. Inspect the brush roll area. Remove the belt, if you have a spare, check the size. If it's more than 6 months old, replace the belt. Spin the brush roll in the housing, does it spin free or hesitate or not turn at all? If it spins with effort there could be debris under the end caps; if one end cap will not turn there is enough debris to cause the end cap to internally melt to the roller. If you cannot turn the brush roll by hand, replacement is your best solution. You should also inspect the housing where the roller spins, specifically where the end caps sit; look for damage to the slots in the plastic, it the roller will not sit snug this could cause enough vibration to make the sound you're hearing.

Cleaning brushes wont rotate

I understand how important the brushes are when cleaning.

You may want to the check the pump belt for breakage for the brush belt and pump belt work in conjunction with the pump.

If you're still experiencing difficulty, you may want to have your machine inspected at one of our Authorized Service Centers. Here's a quick link to help you locate one in your area:

Kenmore upright Model 116 31912101 Brush doesn't turn. Little red reset pin doesn't move.

Something is jammed in it or the belt is bad.Turn it upside down. You will see 4-6 screws.Remove the screws and the plate they are holding. Now the brush is exposed. The belt hooks on to the brush and a small wheel on the other end.Remove the brush and belt.Make sure the area is free of debris. While you have it off, replace the belt.

Beater bar rotating but now making really loud almost buzzing sound???

It is probably a bad belt. That model uses a geared belt and you possibly have a few teeth missing on the belt.It could also be a bad brush or bad motor but less likley.Take the cover off of the power nozzle and inspect the belt.Disconnect it and look at it for missing teelh or a bad spot where they look different than the rest if this is the problem you can stop reading and just go buy a belt.Spin the brush by hand it should give very little resistance without a belt attached. If it spins freely then inspect the ends for a bad bearing.Check the plastic end caps for melting. If they look ok then try moving the brush back and forth slightly to see if the bearing has come apart. If the brush is spinning free and the ends are not showing any movement other than spinning around then inspect the area where the belt rides and make sure it is free of debris like hair and string. Finally plug in the machine with the power nozzle attached and the brush disconected and cover still off and listen to the motor in the power nozzle. If it still makes the noise it's the motor www.sewvac.com

The brush won't rotate and the belt on the side access panel is running. I borrowed this machine from a friend and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Make sure the unit is not on bare floor or the brush is not disengaged. If not, try to move the settings for the brush switch to see if it engages the clutch. The next thing to inspect is the linkage from the brush switch to the clutch which could just need to be adjusted by straitening the shaft. If none of the above works I would suspect the clutch if the mechanics look ok.

Belt not moving

Hello,

There are actually two belts on the Dyson DC07. The one belt that you can physically see, and a second belt that connects the clutch assembly to the motor shaft. If you're able to spin the one belt that's attached to the brushes, but the vacuum is not spinning the brush, this can really only be one of two problems. Either the rear belt that connects the clutch to the motor shaft has fallen off, which would prevent it from spinning, or the clutch assembly itself maybe bad. Usually when the clutch goes bad however it will make a terrible grinding noise first.

Here's a video on how you can access your clutch, and inspect the rear belt. Either way you'll need to take it apart to diagnosis it.

Hope this helps you:

Thank you,

Chris J.

My repairman moved so I need to service on my own

Excellent question, however a D3 is basically a problem free vac. All you need to do to maintain it is keep a stock of fresh 4 ply bags and periodically remove the lid from the head and clean out any dust and dirt building up around the motor or brush roll. There are 5 philips screws recessed in the lower housing , accessible from underneath the head , Once removed the lid will lift of and you can vacuum any dust away from the motor and brush roll. There are two hex nuts holding the power head motor in place and if loosened they will change the tension on the brush roll and belt so check the tension before tampering with them.
NOTE On this vac a properly installed brush roll will stop the motor and kick out the breaker/reset on the vac if the brush roll is gripped firmly against the brush opening with a hand securely gripping it.
I mean grab it VERY tight or you will have it slip and blister your fingers. If the belt / motor position is too loose or if the belt has a broken tooth, it will rattle like a machine gun , because it is slipping.
If too tight it will kick out the motor rest continually. You can periodically remove the belt, turn it inside out for inspection and examine for cracking or loose teeth by rolling through your fingers and pull the brush up and slightly forward from its housing to inspect for hair and thread at the end of the brush roll. There are recessed ball bearings inside the wood on the brush roll and they need to be kept clear of buildup on the outside.
Spray any wheel squeaks with wd 40, with the straw in place, justy a quick burst and you can also do this on the very end at the centre of the Power head motor , however DO NOT spray the carbon brush copper surface area as WD will burn. If you are very methodical you can actually remove the carbon brushes which are offset and clean them with a dry cloth and inspect for chipping and wear. Pay attention to their position and do only 1 at a time. That's all. Electrolx 101.
Post back with how you make out.
PS parts come from an AERUS Electrolux source but a good pro vac shop can give you great service too as this same vac is now sold under several labels.

Bissel pro heat /brushes do not turn

Belt worn or hair build up can clog it from spinning. I've seen this on other models. Just remove the hair slowly. If the Belt is worn you can replace that from Bissel or any store that sells their product.

Check to ensure that the pump belt and brush belt are intact and installed according to the instructions provided in the User's Guide.

The pump belt is located under the belt access door on the side of the machine. This belt should be looped around the red pulley and the silver motor shaft.

To check the brush belt, please follow these directions:

Turn the machine OFF and unplug from the wall outlet.

Step on the handle release pedal to lay the handle down on the floor.

Remove the Tank-in-Tank and SmartMix Bottle and set them aside.

Turn the machine over to expose the brush.

Look for the red retainer plates, which hold the black brush arms in place. Remove the two Phillips head screws to access the toothed brush belt. Check to ensure the belt is intact and looped around the brush end, as well as the red pulley with the ridges.

Remove any dirt or debris from the brush assembly.
Inspect brush, brush arms, red brush arm retainers and red pulley for damage and replace parts if applicable.

Bissell Proheat 2x Series 8920 - Brush Belt Metal Shaft Sprocket won't turn

Most likely the brush motor is bad and not turning, part #2036757, would sell for around $23. To get to it, start taking out screws on the top cover, that motor is under the that top access cover.
