Question about Canon GL2 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

"remove tape" Hi there, my cam. will show the "remove tape" warning about 30 sec. into putting a new or old tape in. The manual talks about condesation but I know is not the problem, do you know what is the problem? thanks

Same problem as laramerci's. Our manual indicates condensation which is also not likely. I thought it was a poor performing battery but it happens when it is hooked directly to power. I also tried a new tape, and it is doing it with a brand new tape as well as all the old tapes. Any solutions would be appreciated.

same problem as laramerci's and doesn't have anything to do with condensation, battery, or tape. I have eliminated those as problems.

One of the other boards suggested that the problem is with the 2 plastic gears that form part of the clutch mechanism. It gets fouled with sluff off from cheap tapes and slips. Go to Radio Shack and get a can of contact cleaner(spray alcohol and not tuner cleaner. tuner cleaner has a lubricant and defeats the purpose.) Cycle the loading mechanism to the open position and turn off the camera. Spray the contact cleaner onto the white plastic gears. Let sit for 20 sec and then blow dry on low heat with an ordinary blow dryer. It might take 2 or 3 cleanings but this will work. After that use only Sony Premium tapes.

I've had my GL-2 for about 3 years, and just recently started experiencing this problem. It happens when I flip the power saver switch off, then back on again. I've found that removing and reinstalling the battery lets me continue without ejecting and inserting the tape. I also just replaced the watch battery but I'm still getting the "eject" message when I use the power saver switch. I'm not looking forward to spending hundreds of dollars, but it "is" quite annoying.

Sounds like your thermocouple is shot. It's that little tube that the pilot light heats up.I am assuming that you have started this heater before. The thermocouple has to stay a certain temperature to keep the gas flowing. You can buy universal thermocouple kits at your local hardware store.Make sure gas is turned off.Loosen the coupling nut on the outside of the tank then remove the tin and remove the heating part. The whole thing is a small 1/8 tube.Bend new one like the old one and put it back in place. If the kit has yellow Teflon tape wrap the threads on the coupling and tighten.Turn the gas back on and test for leaks with soapy water. Thanks for choosing FixYa.com.

I always add this for your information. If this is not the solution that you are looking for please re post because when we pick a question to answer FixYa takes it out of the questions.

Lost code for 1996 toyota prado radio l had the battery replaced now the radio displays a sec sign

for our Toyota Prado 2001 01, after the battery had been removed SEC was showing on the cd / tape / radio display. To remove the security SEC warning, find the last 3 digits of your VIN number (under the hood) hold down the "TUNE" button and then press "1"

Then use the numbers 1 2 and 3 to type in the last 3 digits of your VIN number.

Quickly hold down "SCAN" button, the radio will power off, then press the volume button to turn it back on.

-I accidentally held down "auto" before holding down scan, I don't think auto has any part of fixing this (just an error on my part) but if the above doesn't work, you could try hold AUTO down after entering the digits then hold scan - just as I did.

SEC has now been removed, enjoy your radio!

I can't get tape out of cam corder

Let me know the error message. Go down further on the error message check for numeric code. If you see ''02". I'm sorry you need a qualified personnel to do the job. if it shows "03" keep the cassette door open(5 sec or more and make sure to put power on it) and wait until it open.If it ejected, try with another tape, it could be your tape causes problem. Good luck

My camera does not show what i have taped

Regarding no picture in playback is problem mostly of dirty / clogged video head in Sony handy-cam and can be corrected by using good quality video head cleaning tape.
As far as memory stick picture concern, I think lost pictures (42)would be in other folder on memory stick.

Sony dcr-hc35e

first try a cleaning tape and this will not solve the problem have a service dealer check the unit.ru the cleaning tape once and try to playback a good old recording, if it does not work try to run the tape twice before testing . do not run the tape too many times as you may damage the video heads.one cleaning session should not be longer than 10-15 seconds. most of the new cams are stopping the cleaning tape playback after 10-15 secs.

Playback Problems

Ditto. Old tapes seem to be related to the problem. All I have to do is put in a new tape, play it, remove it, put the old one back in and it will play normally again. I can't explain why. I know the camera has an automatic tape detection feature and I wonder if it is at fault. Perhaps the camera has trouble detecting older tapes and the brains get scrambled. A new tape resets the detector. It's just a guess.
