Question about Olympus WS-100 Digital Voice Recorder

2 Answers

Recording Time I encountered a problem with the WS100 recorder after I downloaded and erased the files on it. The remaining time does not return to the freshly formatted time of 4:25:27. It appears that the recorder is not recognizing the newly freed space but is continuing for where the files left off. Is this a defect or is there a way I need to format the recorder?

After taking the time to talk to Olympus tech support, they thought it was perfectly normally to have to reformat the recorders in order for it to return to its full memory state. Their response doesn't make sense to me but I guess it adds to my disappoint with the product and its unreliability.

I've had the same problem. My recorder now only has a max of 47 minutes recording time before I have to dump the audio. I tried reformatting, which is supposed to erase all memory, even that which may be hidden, but it didn't help.

I have erased all the files from the recorder, tried to reformat, and it still says Full even though there are no files on the recorder now.

Likewise I removed all files but still only have 35 minutes recording available.

Hi, This may help: I had same problem, but solved it by downloading files to my PC, then deleting them. I now have folders ready to go, with over 8 hours available on each of them. I sure hope this helps -- I've had to learn so much about this recorder by trial and error, and that's not good when it's used for business! Linda

I have one of these recorders, I actually have 4 or 5, since discontinued I believe, and one is stuck at 43 min remaining.

I think that problems start when you remove the battery while
the recorder is / was in the process of recording (or in play mode) I now press stop while recording before opening the battery case to switch a battery

On my Olympus DS-2, although I have erased all my files the recorder shows that that there is little or no room for recording. This is the first time this has happened to me.

The amount of room available on the Olympus DS2 are determined by two things:

1. Avaiable Memory
2. Recording Mode

With that said, if you have formatted (erased) the files on the recorder and there is little recording room left, you will need to change your recording mode. I would recommend changing it to SP mode.

I hope this helps.

Remaining recording time VERY short for no apparent reason

check how many different folders you have set up. just because you erase all in one folder, there can be other folders.
Find the manual reset for reformatting the recorder.

CX602 erase issue. how do i erase files?

I have a shaperper Image voice recorder and I accidently found out how to erase a recording today. You first have to get to the recording you want, which ever one it is first, 1, 2, etc. Once you have located it, stop and press erase. It will then say "erase" on the screen. At that point you press erase a second time and then it will say "stop". This will erase that recording.

Hop this helps.

Erasing Files

when you copy the files to your computer the files are still in the ws-100, you have to erase them in the ws-100 buttons after that.
