Problem for Microsoft Streets and Trips 2008 Full Version for PC
Streets and Trips wont start
The program loads on my laptop but when i go to use it it will not start. It gives the hour glass for about 10 seconds then nothing.

What verison of Windows are you running - does your PC meet the minimum system requirements suggested by the software?

- This is infuriating. I paid good money for this program and now Microsoft makes me go through the hassle of calling them to make it work? AND I have to be online when I do it? AND I have to reinput my product code (which I will have to dig out again!)? What did I pay for if the program is not going to work without them tapping into my PC? I love Streets and Trips, but I am so frustrated with Microsoft I almost don't want to buy any more of their products. If I could get by without them, I would. If Openoffice.org would make a Streets and Trips type program, I would dump MS in a heartbeat. - leahcorsaroApr 20, 2009

- after i installed my S&T 2008 with GPS locator i clicked register later because im already registered and the program didnt start! before when i installed my 2007 without GPS locator after i clicked register later it automatically started S&T but when i installed 208 it never even worked!! microsoft is such a bullshitter ohh wow! new version! 2009! amazing new updated roads! but who would want to use it if it doesnt work morons!!!anyways, after that i tried double clicking the icon in the desktop, the icon in the start menu, and the original folder it just shows me the circle thing to wait for 5 seconds and then nothing happens, im running windows xp with vista inspirant mod BUT ITS STILL XP!!!!
and yes, it meets the min requirements, heck! it meets the max requirements does anyone have the solution to this problem? please this is urgent for my business!!!!

- I am pissed that microsoft is screwing with us after we paid good money for their ****. I spent numerous hours going through the registry fixes and reinstalling S&T with no results. I use this on my laptop while out on the road and was really pissed when it would not work. I put my laptop under the tires of my Semi and ran over it. Now I have another laptop and have the same problem. I call and they tell me I have to call back because they are closed on weekends, after spending 15 minutes with product keys and the like. It is exactly like a virus and just as annoying. How can microsoft get by screwing with my personal property. - olsonlOct 26, 2008

I was having the same problem with streets and trips 2008.I uninstalled and reinstalled the program no luck.I restored to an earlier time no luck.I talked to a friend of mine who is a PC tech he could'nt help me.I was totally frustrated with this issue.I installed the program 2 months ago and had no problems until last saturday.I depend on this program for work.I called Microsoft of course the wrong department they gave me the right number to call 1-800-936-5700 this program Microsoft Streets and Trips with GPS locator has unlimited tech support.They connected to my laptop and went to one of their websites and downloaded a small reset program and this resolved the issue.My issue was that I would double click the icon on my desktop I would get a circle thing which is the same as the hour glass on xp for only about 3 seconds and then nothing the program would not launch.Any way I tried I couldnt get the program to open.
I hope this information is usefull to some one.

I finally got thru to Microsoft, and their tech had to take over my desktop and actually install some stuff. I am a former MCSE, and I still can't tell you for the life of me what was wrong. He wouldn't tell me. I think it is Vista related.
Anyway, it works fine now!

This is a fishing expedition by msn to catch unregistered copies of trips. Make sure you have a registered copy before you call tech help line. 15 minutes to install patch. 1-800936-5700

Try an alternative route to the program. Start, Programs, Streets and Trips folder, exe file with icon on it.
You should be able to get into your program from there.

I had this same problem on a laptop with a clean XP Pro and a fully registered S&T 2008.
I let it go, got a new laptop, SAME DAMN thing.

Tons of hold time and product key verification ****, but they got it fixed. It takes them longer to verify your key and start a desktop sharing session than it does for them to apply the patch.

Streets and Trips wont startMy lap top is a Tecra 512 RAM Intel Celeron M. I have load the software many times, and I couldn`t make this software start

Call tech support. They will fix it in seconds. There is a small program they need to run to "UNREGISTER" S&T 2008. After they run the file, you simply re-enter the product key and it is brand new. You don't lose any files, at least as far as I can tell.

I had the same problem on XP Pro SP3. So not limited to Vista. Tech support took control and downloaded a program, launched it, and then S&T 2008 started fine. They did make sure the 'fix file' was deleted. You have to go through support but at least it fixed the problem for me.

Hi Tim...Yes, I had the exact same fix...the tech took over my laptop and downloaded something. Of course, as a former tech, the last thing I wanted to do was call a tech (terrible blow to my self esteem! LOL!)
We were on holidays in San Diego when the program stopped working, so the timing was pretty inconvenient.
Mine is the GPS edition too. It's great now that it works!

I have a brand new dual core Hp DV9000 laptop, running windows Vista. I purchased Microsoft Streets and Trips 2008 with GPS, installed it without a hitch, and it ran BEAUTIFULLY for about a week, then suddenly, it wouldn't start. (execute). Click on the icon, or go to start/programs/streets, or, go to windows explorer/program files/streets and Trips and click on the exe file....doing ANY of these things only gets you the timer (used to be an hourglass in earlier versions of windows, is now a spinning wheel) for about 5 seconds, then nothing. I did a system restore back to when it worked, same problem. I uninstalled and re-installed 3 times, same issue. I went to Windows Knowlege base (Used to be an MCSE in NT days) and found an exact description of problem, the solution for which they said was to uninstall the file Riched32.dll from the windows/system32 directory, and replace it with uncorrupted version. (Keep in mind there has been no error messages of any sort!) They also said that if Windows refused to allow uninstallation, to reboot and re-start with dos command prompt. Well, you can only get the dos shell if you re-start with "safe-mode/command prompt" , I was denied access to change the file here to, and as I can't remember the dos commands to change the permissions anyway, I am hooped. I should be able to do this in Windows, as I am the administrator, but I guess in Vista, this has changed, and Vista makes the rules, not the admin.
