The control panel on my new ge electric range does not work or even light up. The surface burners do work. What is my solution? Is there a code i need to enter to get this working.

I'm visiting my mom and she mentioned that the indicator lights (when burner is on), the clock, everything on the control panel (GE electric range) quit working, although the burners still work. Decided to check the web and had some hope when I read CandySnack's post, but sadly, no help found there. YET! Anyone with a solution? I've powered the oven off/on at the fuse box, but didn't help. Thanks.

If it's the light that indicated the element is on, replace the switch. If it's the light that indicated the element is hot, replace the element.

We've seen similar problems due to an intermittent failure in the control board. If you can have it removed we can likely repair it for you.

SOURCE: Ancient (1971) Frigidaire Cookmaster electric

The stove has 4 burner switches with a # 2 terminal on each switch. This contact is similiar on all four switches. One of the switches # 2 contact is stuck. The burner switch should disconnect both legs of the 240 volt circuit, one leg through the # 2 terminal and one leg through the thermostat built into the burner switch. Disconnect the pilot lamp wire on each switch unti the light goes off and then replace that burner switch. This should correct the problem

Surface unit control problem

The burner element that is staying ON is also the same one causing the surface light to stay on.
The switch that controls the element is bad.
Unplug the range. Open the switch control console and replace the defective switch.
Make sure the range is unplugged because of high voltage in the console.

I need instructions on how to light the pilot light on a GE XL44 Stove. Model#JGBS15PEA2AD

MOST modern appliances that use gas ignition (including dryers) no longer use a pilot. These appliances are now equipped with a burner assembly with electric igniters. The following link explains a little theory about how these igniters work and how to access the them on a gas range:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

If you are having ignition problems with one of the oven manifolds (bake or broil), it may be a simple matter of a weak or bad igniter. If BOTH manifolds are experiencing the same problem, you may have a bad regulator or electronic oven control (EOC) board. The EOC controls all your oven features.

The surface burners use an electrode type igniter for ignition. There is one mounted next to each surface burner assembly. They get their electric source from a spark module. If none of the surface igniters are working, you may have a bad spark module. If one single burner is not igniting, the problem is probably the electrode.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

Why would an electric oven stop working? I tested the element

There are a few things to check for. Make sure the electrode ( the small metal piece that the spark comes off from ) is clean and the holes in the burner are clean, use a pin or paper clip to clean out the burner holes and NOT a tooth pick as these can break off and make things worse. Example of a burner. The next thing to check for are theignition switches under the surface control knobs, the switches can twist and break and keep the spark module on and the spark keeps "clicking" even when the burner is light. If every thing looks good, you may have a bad spark module, replace it. Sometimes cleaning can get moisture into the surface switches, try drying them with an hair dryer to see of this will help. Repair and checking tips for surface burners.

If this is happening on more than one burner the command module may be bad, small cicuit board inside control panel. With power disconnected easy replacement. check wiring to each burner control 1st by removing control panel cover. Be careful to remove small screws on either side of panel between panel & burner.

Surface unit indicator light is always on

Coffy, if you are talking about the hot surface indicator lights, they are controlled by the limiter on the burner itself. When the burner heats up the limiter closes and sends power to the light (hot surface). When the burner cools the limiter is supposed to open cutting power to the hot surface indicator light. They may be stuck closed. If you are talking about the lights on the back panel, that is controlled by the infinate switch itself. Catriver
