I just got brand new Marantz DV 7001 dvd player. It's perfect overall except for one thing. Every 20 or so minutes picture disappears for a couple of seconds. I'm using HDMI (newest Monster M1000 and Ultralink Titanium MK II) cables.Tried both cables - same thing. My new Sony LCD worked perfectly with my previous Sony upscaling player.
My friend who has the same Marantz DVD player claims he's having the same problem. My gut feeling tells me it has to do with HDMI. Any suggestions?
I have long resolved the problem. I returned the damn thing.
BTW I have tried everything including changing resolutions. Nothing worked. Had to listen to a whole lot of nonsense from the worst (Marantz') customer' service in the world! Not my problem anymore. Good luck to those who have these models. To those only thinking of getting this player, my suggestion - do not! Better get top of the line Pioneer Elite.

Make sure your playing componet like CD player have a digital output socket. Connect this to a digital port on the amp witk a single RCA or Optical cable if output available on CD. Make sure the digital assingment in amp is set for cd function and corresponding input(example cd plyer connected on dig 4 input on amp, press menu, setup, assignment, go to cd player, make sure setting on dig 4 or change input to dig 4, go to next component to memorise setting.and exit, see manual to assist you) if still no sound take dvd cable for instance that is working and put that in dig 4 port. if that works check in cd player that settings spdif/raw/pcm is correct one for yor digital output if still no sound soun pc board faulty.
the play head of your device known as the ''lens'' is either dirty or bad thats why its selecting disc, try clean it with lens cleaner,if it still does the same thing call your technician, and tell him to change the lens for you.if he does the right thing ,it will work perfectly well.
It seems the DV-S5950 has an incompatability with HDMI through Samsung TV's.
I work for an electronics store in Australia, and had same problem when running this DVD player on my Samsung KA40A650.
I tried it on my brothers LA40M51 and the same thing happened. Tried it at work on the A650 display model and same thing again. Then I tried it on the LG LCD that was next to it, and no problems. Also tried the DV-S5950 display model at work and it did the same thing.
It's not a general Yamaha issue, as we bought a new (higher model) Yamaha DVD player and it worked perfectly fine. I also tested the cables, and it wasn't them either.
It seems that that specific model of DVD player from yamaha just doesn't like the HDMI inputs on Samsung TVs...
